ARCH Teesside is a specialist sexual violence service based in Teesside. We believe we care, we are with you. At Arch, we are here to support you.

If your life has been affected by r**e or sexual violence finding the right words may be impossible. We provide a free, safe, and confidential service to help you on your road to recovery. Our mission: To provide quality care, support, help, and guidance for all those affected by r**e and sexual violence across Teesside. Our vision: That those affected by r**e and sexual violence will be able to move forward in their lives empowered by the quality support we have provided in their recovery. Celebrating Hope for Change 💚

After three inspiring years, our Hope for Change project has come to an end.

Over the course of the project, we have had the privilege of working alongside an incredible group of young women who have shared their experiences, challenged perceptions, and helped shape conversations around mental health.

Our Hope for Change Ambassadors have achieved so much.
Together, they have:
✨ Created a powerful video for health professionals sharing key messages
✨Developed resources exploring eating disorders, trauma & mental health
✨ Focused on young mums and their support needs
✨ Spoken confidently to packed school assemblies
✨Presented their learning & recommendations to professionals and decision-makers
✨ Used their voices to influence positive change

We have learned so much from every ambassador who has been part of this journey, you are truly inspirational!

Recently, we came together for a finale celebration event to reflect on everything that has been achieved and to recognise the lasting impact of the project.

A huge thank you to all of our ambassadors, project partners, and brilliant team members who have made Hope for Change such a success. While the project may be ending, the conversations it has started and the impact of the young women's voices will continue.

📢 Just 1 Week to Go: Start with Survivors

In just one week's time, professionals, commissioners, strategic leaders, practitioners and survivor-centred organisations from across the North East will come together for Start with Survivors.

Hosted by ARCH Teesside, RSACC Durham & Darlington, and R**e Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland, this important learning event will explore how we can create more responsive, effective and trauma-informed systems for people affected by sexual violence.

We are delighted to welcome Sophie Olson, author of The Flying Child, as our keynote speaker. Through lived experience, professional insight and sector expertise, Sophie will challenge us to consider what happens when services and systems truly start with survivors.

The conference will provide opportunities to:
🔹 Hear directly from survivor voices and lived experience perspectives
🔹 Explore the role of commissioning, policy & strategic leadership in improving outcomes
🔹 Share learning and examples of effective practice
🔹 Strengthen partnerships across sectors

This week, members of the ARCH Teesside team travelled to Manchester to attend a learning event hosted by The Pilgrim Trust as part of the Young Women in Mind programme.

It was a valuable opportunity to connect with other organisations from across the country, hear about the incredible work taking place within their projects, and share learning from our own Hope for Change project.

Our Hope for Change project recently held its finale event, and we have gained so much insight from working alongside young women, professionals and partners throughout the programme. We'll be sharing more about the project's impact and learning very soon.

One of the strongest messages from the day was the importance of maintaining a gendered lens when understanding and responding to mental health needs. Young women's experiences are unique, shaped by a range of social, cultural and systemic factors, and it is essential that their voices are heard and their needs are recognised.

The event reinforced something we feel strongly about at ARCH: while mental health challenges affect people of all genders, young women often face distinct pressures and barriers that require tailored understanding and support.

A huge thank you to The Pilgrim Trust and everyone involved for bringing together such an inspiring and thoughtful learning community.

Today, our CEO was pleased to attend the latest North East Anti-Racism Coalition (NEARC) meeting at Middlesbrough Town Hall.

The coalition shared important research, undertaken in partnership with Newcastle University, which paints a stark picture of the reality of racism in our region. A concerning 78% of respondents reported that racism is an everyday or regular occurrence within our communities.

The findings also highlight the lived experiences of women and girls, with 27% of respondents believing that racism is experienced more heavily by women, particularly Muslim women who wear visible religious dress such as a headscarf or covering.

As an organisation committed to equality, inclusion and the safety of all survivors, we are proud to be part of these conversations. We recognise that meaningful change requires more than signing a pledge. It requires action, reflection and accountability.

We will continue to develop our approach and build our anti-racism plan, ensuring that our commitment translates into tangible steps. Thank you to the speakers today who gave some valuable perspectives and insight! 💚

Thanks to the staff and students College for having us at their Freshers' Fair last week. Jo-Anne and Alex from the team really enjoyed making connections and talking to students about the support and services we offer.

The team also trialled our new Hook-a-Duck game, adding a fun and interactive element to the day. Each duck had a consent-related question underneath, helping to spark conversations and raise awareness about healthy relationships and boundaries in an engaging way.

We loved seeing so many students get involved and test their knowledge. If you spot us at a future event, make sure you come along and give it a try! 🦆💚
