We're touched that so many people are resonating with Ann's story.

In this clip, Ann describes what caring for her son involved, and how she accessed support for the first time. She also discusses how she initially felt about the term 'carer'.

Do you look after someone? Whether or not you identify as a carer, if you look after someone, there is support for you.

The first ever cross-government action plan to support unpaid carers has been published, and promises that carers "will be identified earlier and connected to support sooner."

Carers Manchester welcomes the announcement, with our Network and Engagement Coordinator, Dan Mitchell, commenting:

"The contribution of unpaid carers to England's social care system is indispensable, yet often unrecognised. It is encouraging to see unpaid carers on the national agenda for the first time, with the government acknowledging the need for greater recognition and support. We commend the unpaid carers and voluntary sector organisations whose sustained advocacy has helped make this a national priority."
