Ever wondered what Malmesbury Civic Trust does? Come along yo our AGM and find out. It starts at 7:30 in the Rausing Building/Old Moravian Church. After a brief AGM there will be an opportunity to ask questions of the committee. Then we will welcome the Director of Wiltshire Museum to tell us about their exciting project to revitalise a heritage building into their new museum.

This Friday is our AGM at 7:30pm in the Rausing Building/ Old Moravian Church. After a very brief AGM and updates on our work, we are excited to have a talk on the new home of Wiltshire Museum. David Dawson will be giving us a talk on how the Assizes Court is being transformed.

📣 Have Your Say on Wiltshire’s Future. Wiltshire Council is running its Local Plan Scoping Consultation and this is an important chance for Malmesbury residents to influence how our county grows. Consultation closes on the 30th September.

The new Wiltshire Local Plan will shape decisions on housing, employment, infrastructure, design, transport, environment, minerals and waste—including how Wiltshire meets its need for around 3,500 homes a year while protecting our historic towns and landscapes. The Council is asking for views on:

• What the Plan should contain
• Where growth should go
• What local policies are needed
• What evidence should be gathered
• How communities should be engaged

Your feedback now will help ensure Malmesbury’s heritage, character and community needs are properly considered.

FINAL FEW PLACES FOR Saturday 12th September: For a special Heritage Open Day treat, step inside Malmesbury’s banking past on Saturday 12th September.

Ever wondered what stories are hidden behind Malmesbury’s old bank premises? Join Malmesbury Civic Trust for a fascinating guided tour exploring their history from 1812 onwards — with photographs, plans and newspaper articles bringing the past to life at the start of the visit.

📍 Meet at: Aroma Restaurant, 35 High Street
📅 Dates: Friday 11 (FULLY BOOKED) and Saturday 12 September (FINAL FEW PLACES)
🕝 Time: 2.30pm

The FREE tour lasts around an hour and finishes at Lally’s Tea Rooms — with the added bonus of a visit to the basement, once home to the Tarantula Coffee House.

Malmesbury River Heritage Walk - this Sunday 14th June at 11am. Meet at the entrance to Conygre Mead, by Station Road Car Park.

An engaging and fun guided river walk, led by scientist Dr Jumana Akhtar and local historian Campbell Ritchie, exploring how the two rivers have shaped Malmesbury's story in terms of their social, economic, historic and ecological impact.

It is suitable for all the family. Book ahead (£1) or turn up.

A huge thanks from Malmesbury Civic Trust to Richard Collet for a fantastic talk to a packed audience at Malmesbury Town Hall on Friday 15th May.

Richard's talk 'Along the Borders - A search for what divides and unites the British Isles' provided a great insight to the impact and influence of borders old and new across Britain.

It's on Friday 15th May at 7:00pm at Malmesbury Town Hall. Everyone is welcome! Last few tickets remaining.

Richard's talk is based on his new book ‘Along the Borders’, published by Penguin, which chronicles his multi-year journey exploring through hundreds of miles of borderlands across Britain. At heart it's about the people that live in borderlands, how our borders and boundaries are bridged, and how they bring us together.

It will resonate here in Malmesbury and across North Wiltshire and South Gloucestershire. Our local history has been shaped by our place as an influential Anglo-Saxon border area between the Kingdom of the West Saxons and Mercia and Richard will highlight what this has meant over the years. He knows us well. Just last September he wrote a major article for BBC Travel on the Athelstan Pilgrim Way.
