‼️HEATSTROKE IN GREYHOUNDS – PLEASE READ‼️

With the weather heating up, we need to talk about something serious… heatstroke which is a fast, silent killer that can affect any dog, but greyhounds are especially at risk.

Greyhounds are particularly vulnerable to heatstroke. Their low body fat, thin skin, and unique build mean they can overheat quickly and cool down more slowly than many other breeds.

When is it too hot to walk?

☀️Once temperatures start reaching 20°C and above, extra caution should be taken with greyhounds as they can overheat very quickly.
☀️Once it hits 25°C, it’s dangerous for all breeds not just greyhounds
☀️Over 30°C becomes a risk to both dogs and humans

Use this rule:
👉 If you can’t hold your hand on the pavement for 5 seconds, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws!!

🚨Heatstroke kills in minutes. Know the signs:
• Heavy panting or rapid breathing
• Excessive drooling
• Bright red or pale gums
• Vomiting or diarrhoea
• Weakness, collapse, or seizures
• Glazed eyes or unresponsiveness

Heatstroke can develop within minutes and requires emergency action.

Heat exhaustion vs heatstroke: What’s the difference❓
• Heat exhaustion: Early stage. Dog may be tired, panting heavily, or showing signs of discomfort.
• Heatstroke: Serious and life-threatening. The dog’s internal body temperature is dangerously high and organs may begin to shut down. Immediate vet care is essential.

❌ What NOT to do if your dog has heatstroke:
• Don’t walk during the hottest parts of the day
•Don’t over exercise in in warm weather
• Don’t cover your dog entirely with wet towels as it can trap heat
• Don’t leave them alone you must stay with them and contact your vet urgently

✅ What you SHOULD do:
• Move them into a cool, shaded space or indoors
• Use cold water to wet your dog
• Place a wet cool coat on your dog
• Use a fan to increase airflow
• Cool first, transport second
•Stay with your dog
• Call your vet immediately as this is a medical emergency

‼️Preventing heatstroke:
• Walk early morning or late evening when it’s coolest
• Limit time outdoors especially in gardens. Even sunbathing or playing in the heat can cause heatstroke
• Use cool coats especially useful if you live in a flat and must take your dog out to toilet
• Cool coats can also be worn indoors to bring body temp down
• Provide constant access to fresh water
• Use a fan pointed at their bed
• Try cool mats some hounds love them, some need encouragement
• Keep your greyhound inside and cool during heatwaves

Please remember:
No dog has ever died from skipping a walk, but many have died from going on one.

Greyhounds don’t need loads of exercise. What they do need is for us to protect them from the dangers of heat.

Please share to help others stay informed this summer☀️⛱️

🎶💜MEET SONG-LOOKING FOR HER FOREVER HOME💜🎶

Song is a tiny little greyhound with a heart and personality that sing far louder than her small frame. Full of warmth, sweetness, and gentle charm, she is a truly special girl. At 5 years old, Song is ready to find her forever home and start the next beautiful chapter of her story🏡

She is affectionate, emotionally intelligent, and incredibly intuitive, with a calming presence that softens every room she walks into like the perfect peaceful melody. Song is true to her name and enjoys singing little tunes to the staff each day to let us know when she would like her food or when it’s time for outside adventures. She always keeps us in tune with her plans and never fails to make us smile🎶❤️

Song did have sleep startle that appeared once she settled into her previous home, so she will need an understanding adult-only home, or one with mature teenagers, where she can have a safe and peaceful space to rest undisturbed. Aside from this small management need, she was wonderful in the home, loving, relaxed, and very happy in day-to-day life💕

During her recent dog test, Song was initially a little unsure but quickly found her rhythm once she recognised Blossom. The two happily walked side by side together in perfect harmony, which was lovely to see🐾

She is social and friendly with other dogs, has experience around different breeds, and has happily shared her kennel with calm male greyhounds. Song could live with another calm hound companion as a gentle duet, though she would be equally content as an only dog, being the lead singer in her humans’ world🐕

This beautiful girl is one in a million, and whoever welcomes Song home will quickly realise life feels softer, sweeter, and perfectly in tune with her by their side forever. Some dogs leave pawprints on your heart, but Song leaves behind a melody you’ll never forget🎵

If you think your home could be the perfect place for Song to write her next chorus, get in touch! You can register your interest by calling us any day between 10am and 4pm on 01621 788315 or email us any time at [email protected] 📧💙

Or, let the music begin and apply to adopt Song directly by filling out our adoption form here: 🔗 https://form.jotform.com/250073671192050 📝

Trust us, life feels a little sweeter, a little calmer, and perfectly in tune with a little Song in it 🎶💕

🏡❤️FOREVER HOME FRIDAY-MEET TINY TIM❤️🏡

Forever Home Friday is our chance to shine a spotlight on some of the wonderful greyhounds in our care who are ready and waiting for their forever homes.

Each Forever Home Friday Appeal, we’ll be introducing one of our residents, sharing a little about their personality, and helping them reach the people who might just be their perfect match. Every greyhound deserves a loving home, and through this series we hope to help some of our overlooked dogs find the happy endings they deserve.

🐾This week, we’d like you to meet Tiny Tim.

Here is a little bit about this lovely boy:

Tiny Tim is a confident, affectionate, and wonderfully gentle boy with a cheeky sparkle that makes everyone fall for him, very much a Tiny Tim who lifts spirits wherever he goes. He is calm, well mannered, and full of love, with that classic soppy greyhound heart and a happy go with the flow nature.

During his dog test, he was an absolute gentleman with Blossom, walking calmly by her side with polite sniffs and relaxed confidence, showing just how social and kind he is.

Tiny Tim gets on beautifully with other greyhounds and would be comfortable living with a friendly female hound, though he would thrive more as the only dog soaking up all the love.

He is very much a people dog and adores human company, always happiest close to his favourite people. Because of his age and love of peace, he would be best suited to an adult-only home with no visiting children, and a calm, quiet environment where he can relax and enjoy a peaceful retirement.

He is sweet, affectionate, and ready for a quiet, cosy retirement filled with cuddles and comfort. Tiny Tim truly is a little Christmas blessing of a boy, and welcoming him home would be enough to make any heart sing God bless us, everyone.

📖For more in-depth information about Tiny Tim, including his full personality profile and homing requirements, please visit his main description here:🔗 https://www.clarksfarmgreyhounds.org.uk/dogs-for-rehoming/tiny-tim.htm

If you think you could offer Tiny Tim the loving forever home he deserve, please register your interest by calling us between 10am and 4pm on 01621 788315 or email us anytime at [email protected] 📧💙

💭💙THURSDAY THOUGHTS-WHY DO GREYHOUNDS FORM SUCH STRONG BONDS WITH THEIR PEOPLE?💙💭

Greyhounds are often known for their speed, but one of their most remarkable qualities is their incredible capacity to love.

Why do greyhounds form such strong bonds with their people?

Because they are naturally people-oriented dogs who thrive on companionship, trust and routine. Throughout their lives they spend a great deal of time around humans, and many develop deep emotional connections with those who care for them. Once a greyhound feels safe and loved, they often form incredibly strong bonds and enjoy being close to their family.

During their racing careers, greyhounds spend much of their lives surrounded by people. From trainers and kennel staff to volunteers and carers, they are used to regular human interaction and companionship. They learn to trust the people who care for them, and many thrive on that connection.

When they retire and move into a home environment, something very special happens. For the first time, they have a family of their own.

Greyhounds are sensitive, gentle dogs who often form deep and lasting bonds with the people they love. They quickly learn who makes them feel safe, who feeds them, walks them, comforts them and celebrates them. In return, they offer unwavering loyalty, affection and trust.

Many greyhound owners will tell you that their dog follows them from room to room, watches them closely, leans against them for reassurance, or simply wants to be nearby. While every greyhound is an individual, many genuinely enjoy being part of their family’s daily life.

For a greyhound, your attention, love and approval mean more than you may realise. They do not care about fancy possessions or perfect homes. What matters most to them is feeling secure, loved and included.

After spending years sharing their lives with people, many greyhounds continue to seek that companionship in retirement. They are not just looking for a house. They are looking for their person.

To us, a greyhound becomes part of our world.

To them, we become their whole world.

Have you experienced the special bond that comes with loving a greyhound? We’d love to hear your stories in the comments👇🏼🗣️

💙🐺MEET HUSKY-LOOKING FOR HIS FOREVER HOME🐺💙

Meet Husky, our gentle giant with a heart as soft as freshly fallen snow. This handsome boy is calm, loving, and full of quiet charm. He has a way of slowly but surely melting your heart, just like winter sunshine on a frosty morning, and once he’s there, he stays forever. At 6 years old, this snow-hearted sweetheart is more than ready to find his forever den and a family to keep him warm through every season❄️

Husky is wonderfully well behaved in the kennels and is an absolute pleasure to care for. He is always calm, clean, patient, and happy to quietly go with the flow. Nothing about him is demanding. He is simply content to be near those he loves, enjoying life at his own gentle pace. Like the best Huskies, he has a peaceful presence that makes you feel instantly comfortable and at ease🤍

He absolutely adores his greyhound friends and gains a lot of confidence from them. Because of this, we feel he would thrive living with another calm greyhound or two who could help guide him through home life. He is incredibly social with the other hounds and has happily shared his kennel with female companions, always behaving like the perfect gentleman. That said, once he has built a close bond with his humans, we believe he could also be very happy as the only hound in the home, soaking up all the love and attention for himself🐕

Husky could happily live with calm, respectful, dog-savvy older children or teenagers who understand his sensitive nature. Equally, he would love a quieter adult-only home where life is peaceful, cosy, and full of comfort. Give this boy a soft bed, gentle company, and a few wintery cuddles, and he will be one very happy boy🐾

During his dog test, Husky found Blossom a little confusing at first and became overwhelmed by the situation. However, with reassurance, patience, and guidance, he settled much better and showed us just how responsive and willing to learn he truly is. Since then, he has already made lovely progress during socialisation sessions, and we truly believe his confidence around other breeds will continue to grow beautifully with positive experiences, support, and encouragement🤩

Husky is such a special boy with the kindest soul and the gentlest heart. Whoever gives this gorgeous giant the chance he deserves will quickly realise that life feels softer, calmer, and full of love once he becomes part of the family. His loyalty runs deep, his love is endless, and his quiet Husky magic has a way of warming even the coldest days. We know there is a very lucky family out there waiting for this beautiful boy, and when they find him, it will feel like coming home💙🐺

If you think your home could be the perfect den for Husky to call his own, get in touch! You can register your interest by calling us any day between 10am and 4pm on 01621 788315 or email us any time at [email protected] 📧💙

Or, let Husky leave his pawprints on your heart and apply to adopt him directly by filling out our adoption form here: 🔗 https://form.jotform.com/250073671192050 📝

Trust us, once Husky sleds his way into your heart, there’s no turning back. Life is simply better with this snow-hearted boy by your side🌨️🐾
