Home-Start Essex is a local charity supporting families with young children, helping give them the best possible start in life.

We assist families facing challenges like isolation, mental health, illness, bereavement, poverty, and domestic abuse.

A wonderful donation for our Chelmsford Family Support Group

We are incredibly grateful to the staff and congregation of Trinity Methodist Church, where our Chelmsford Family Support Group is held, for their generous support of local families.

They have kindly raised £300, which we have used to provide Tesco vouchers to help our families with the ongoing rise in food costs - a hugely practical and much-needed form of support.

Alongside this, they also collected essential items including sanitary products, toothpaste, body wash and shampoo, helping to support families with everyday needs.

A special thank you also to our volunteer Alison, Erin, our Seymour House volunteer, and our wonderful Family Group Worker Debbie and Playworker Jo, pictured receiving these generous donations 📸

It's (8–14 June)

The theme is Attunement - but what does that actually mean?🤔

In simple terms, it’s about how “in tune” you are with your baby. It’s about noticing, responding, and connecting emotionally with your little one, those everyday moments of comfort, eye contact, tone of voice, and reassurance.

This kind of connection is at the heart of so much of what we do at Home-Start Essex.

Through our baby massage sessions and family support groups, we see every day how powerful those early relationships are - helping parents and babies build confidence, strengthen bonds, and feel more connected to each other.

Sometimes attunement grows through small, gentle moments… a soothing touch, a shared smile, or simply having someone alongside you to say “you’re doing OK.”

Infant Mental Health Week (8–14 June) | The first 1001 days matter

Research shows that our first 1001 days are the most important in shaping who we become. Even though we don’t consciously remember this stage, our earliest experiences as babies lay the foundations for lifelong development.

Before we can talk, we are already learning how to connect, building confidence, developing self-esteem, growing physical skills, and forming relationships with others.

Good infant mental health supports the development of healthy brains and emotional wellbeing, helping to set the foundations for later life.

At Home-Start Essex, our early support helps strengthen these foundations - offering families encouragement, connection and practical support during this crucial stage of development.

💚 NEW: Thriving Families – Online Wellbeing Support for West Essex Families 💚

Home-Start Essex, in partnership with Harlow Health Centres Trust Limited, is excited to launch Thriving Families, a brand new online wellbeing programme for parents and carers living in West Essex.

Starting on Wednesday 17 June, this welcoming 5-week programme will give families a chance to pause, connect with others, and focus on their own wellbeing in a supportive and non-judgemental space 🌿

Sessions will include gentle wellbeing activities, supportive discussion, mindfulness techniques and practical ideas to help reduce stress and improve wellbeing.
