Home-Start Essex is a local charity supporting families with young children, helping give them the best possible start in life.

We assist families facing challenges like isolation, mental health, illness, bereavement, poverty, and domestic abuse.

💜 We're Back Raising awareness at Broomfield Hospital this Wednesday 💜

A huge thank you to Patti and the team at Broomfield Hospital for inviting Home-Start Essex to attend their information hub, helping us raise awareness of the support available to local families.

We're also incredibly grateful to our wonderful volunteer, Debbie, who is giving her time each month to represent Home-Start Essex and help families, hospital staff and visitors learn more about our services and volunteering opportunities.

💜 Maldon Family Support Group - spaces available! 💜

Are you a parent or carer with a little one aged 0-4? Would you enjoy having somewhere welcoming to meet other local families, while your little one plays, explores and makes new friends?

Our Maldon Family Support Group offers a safe, friendly and supportive space for parents and carers to spend time together, share experiences, make connections and enjoy some time out of the house.

There's always plenty going on for little ones, from toys and play activities to fantastic crafts, with lots of opportunities to explore, get creative and have fun.

It's also a chance for parents and carers to meet others who may be going through similar experiences, have a chat over a cuppa and feel part of a group where everyone is welcome and nobody needs to feel alone.

We regularly invite visitors from local organisations to share useful information and advice with families. This year, we've been joined by Carers First, Community Energy Pathways, Citizens Advice Bureau, ECFWS, Essex Family Forum and Kinder Essex.

A big thank you to our wonderful volunteers Margaret, Linda, Zoe from Seymour House, Mel, Janet and Grace, and to Judi, our volunteer Playworker, for bringing so much creativity and fun to the sessions. We really appreciate everything you do! 💜

📣 Our Online Wellbeing Course is back this November!

Following another successful programme, we're delighted to be back with a new 5-week online wellbeing course for parents living in the MALDON area.

If you're experiencing stress, anxiety or low mood, this welcoming course offers a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space to focus on your own wellbeing, connect with other parents and learn practical techniques to help you feel more confident and resilient.

🍼💛 NEW Baby Massage Group coming to Old Harlow! 💛🍼

We’re delighted to be bringing our Baby Massage group to Old Harlow for the very first time! 🎉

Starting Tuesday 3 November, 1–2.30pm, this free 5-week course is for parents and carers with babies aged 0–12 months who haven’t started crawling.

🌿Our friendly, welcoming sessions are a lovely opportunity to:
✅ Bond with your baby
✅ Support your own wellbeing
✅ Connect with other local families
✅ Learn simple massage techniques to soothe and settle

🥕🍎 LOOK WHO’S VOTING FOR HOME-START ESSEX! 🍎🥕

We’re officially out there! 👀💜Voting open until 30 November!

Our Tesco Fruit & Veg Community Grant voting boxes are now in stores across the area and we’ve already spotted shoppers putting their blue tokens in for Home-Start Essex! 🙌

📸 Here’s a little snapshot from Braintree, Maldon and Saffron Walden… and one shopper clearly knows exactly where their token belongs! 😍

From now until the end of November, Tesco customers can use their blue tokens to vote for their favourite local project. If you’re shopping at one of the participating stores, we’d LOVE it if you chose Home-Start Essex.

If we’re successful, the funding will help us promote healthy eating with the families we support, helping parents and carers access nutritious food, try new recipes and create healthy meals for their children.

Every little blue token could help us make a bigger difference to local families🧡

💜 A little thank you to our wonderful Chelmsford volunteers! 💐

Meet Alison, Beryl, Sheila and Nicki - four of the lovely volunteers who regularly help out at our Chelmsford Family Support Group.

Alongside Sarah, our Family Support Co-ordinator, they really are the glue that keeps everything together! From helping sessions run smoothly to making families feel welcome, they bring so much to the group, and we’re incredibly lucky to have them.

For the past eight weeks, Jackie has been spending time helping out at Chelmsford, enjoying the chance to see another side of Home-Start Essex away from her usual role. She’s absolutely loved it, and says the volunteers made her feel so welcome from the very start.

Jackie wanted to say a little thank you with a posy of flowers for each of them – and she’ll certainly miss her time with the team!

Thank you, Alison, Beryl, Sheila and Nicki, for all the time, care and laughter you bring to the group, and for everything you do alongside Sarah to make it such a welcoming place for local families. It’s been a joy to spend time with you! 💜
