Friday evening the Scouts donned their lab coats to perform three experiments for the Scientist Activity Badge.

They had pulleys, heart rate monitors, and helium cylinders. They made predictions, took measurements, observed the results, and recorded what happened.

Using scientific principles and a pulley system, they lifted 200kg of water, and set a necker flying.

With the lab coats back in the wardrobe, everyone left having had fun and may have learned a little.

Last month we held the Leagrave Scout Group AGM and Presentation Evening, celebrating another fantastic year of Scouting.

With over 100 people in attendance, it was wonderful to see so many members, parents, volunteers, trustees, supporters and guests come together to celebrate the achievements of our young people and recognise the dedication of our volunteers.

Over the last year we have welcomed more young people than ever before, with every section now operating a waiting list. The continued growth of the Group is a fantastic reflection of the hard work of our volunteers and the positive experiences our young people enjoy every week.

The last 12 months have been particularly exciting as we completed our move into our new Scout Hut on Bodmin Road. Having our own dedicated headquarters has been a huge improvement for the Group, allowing us to offer a wider range of activities, develop new skills and provide even more opportunities for our young people.

Over the last year our members have taken part in camps, hikes, sleepovers, adventurous activities, community projects and badge work. From Squirrels earning Chief Scout Acorn Awards, to Cubs achieving over 400 badges, Scouts enjoying 14 nights away and our Young Leaders continuing to support every section, it has been another busy and successful year for the Group.

Scouting at Leagrave continues to go from strength to strength, and we are excited to see what the next year will bring.

Here's to another year of adventure, challenge, friendship and fun!

"Oh beans! Tonight the Scouts worked towards their chef badge. After Chil ate 12 tins of baked beans for the Scouts to make tin can ovens, this idea was soon abandoned when they failed to cook anything. Switching to gas hobs and frying pans, the Scouts cooked two courses; omlettes and pancakes. Delish!"

Monday night, our young people were encouraged to cycle to Cubs (accompanied by their parent/guardian) as part of their cyclist badge. We then separated into groups and had a go at cleaning bikes, and lubricating a bike chain, inflating and deflating a tyre after a puncture, the pros and cons of different types of locks, examples of what kit to take on a longer ride and finally they made bike safety posters, including the importance of using a helmet. The night was hailed as a great success by our Cubs, so much so they wanted to do it again 😊

This week 1st Falkes Squirrels started working on their Earth Tribe Award. They discussed where the water in their taps came from and how in some countries they were not as fortunate as them and would have to collect water from rivers often having to walk very long distances to collect it . To demonstrate the point the squirrels walked around the room for 5 minutes. They said they were tired. I explained what they had done was just walk out the village and that people often had to walk for hours . Then they set about making their own water filteration system test various filters ( kitchen towel, sand and stones) to see what offered the best results.

This week 1st Falkes squirrels were put through their paces with an incredible dance workshop courtesy of Jaye Kaye.
