Butoku Ryu Aikijujitsu Luton

Butoku Ryu Aikijujitsu Luton Welcome to the home of Luton Aikido Club on Facebook. The club has been running continuously since Mrs Loft started practising Aikido since 1973.

Tanaka-Ha-Butoku-Ryu-Aikijujitsu is the result of over fifty years of martial training and research by Fujimori Akira Shihan, the founder of this style of Aiki Budo. This was done with the guidence of Tanaka Shigeho Shihan, who is emeritus Shihan of this style. Fujimori Akira sadly passed away on 18/11/2012
He is greatly missed. Luton Aikido Club was founded by Mrs Ros Loft, who is still its Chief

Instructor. The club has been in existence continuously since 1977, and Mrs Loft is now the holder of a 6th Dan Black Belt. She teaches a traditional style of Aikido. There are no competitions so there are no winners or losers. People who join the club can learn Aikido at their own pace. As they become more proficient they will be awarded belts of different colours to mark their progress in this most fascinating of all martial arts. They start off with a white belt. The first coloured belt an Aikido student earns is a yellow belt. These are followed by belts coloured orange, green and then blue. After a period as a blue belt the Aikido student can hope eventually to be awarded a brown belt. Then comes the coveted black belt. Many newcomers to Aikido want to proudly wear a black belt one day. With determination, and a willingness to learn, this honour may come to them. In the Luton Aikido Club they will certainly be given every encouragement. After all, EVERYONE was a beginner once! The club accepts new members from the AGE OF 18 If, after a few weeks, a person wants to continue coming along to the club to train they can register for low-cost insurance through the club, which is a member of the Amateur Martial Association ( a national umbrella organisation for the martial arts in Britain).

LATEST CORONAVIRUS UPDATE:

CURRENTLY AT PHASE 1. The following Medium Risk and High Risk Activities can be performed during phase 1:

• Pad Work (PPE) – indoors
• Partnered Training Drills (pad work and weapons kata)
• Pad Work (No PPE) – outdoors

We have estimated that the maximum number of people the Church hall can accommodate safely (within the current guidance) at any one time to be 8. As numbers are so limited, this unfortunately means we will be unable to take on new members until all restrictions are lifted. Spectators are not permitted.
In order to ensure only 8 people train at any one time, existing members will need to check if there is space available prior to attending. Please contact Ros or Demetrius who will co-ordinate this.
In addition as part of ensuring the club remains Covid secure, club members will need to familiarise themselves with the club’s COVID19 Specific Risk Assessment and the (required) Operational Plan. (See Ros for copies)

Basic guidance for those attending is as follows:
• Members displaying any Covid 19 symptoms should not attend.
• Ros will sign members in and confirm they have stated themselves to be symptom free.
• Hand cleanser will be available but members are advised to have their own supply.
• Equipment should not be shared and any that is shared should be sanitised between sessions.
• Members should be dressed appropriately to train, as no facilities to change will be available.
• Members should bring a personal towel for hand drying and to reduce droplet dispersal (sweat).
• Members should bring their own water/refreshment.
• Maintain a distance of 2m whenever possible.
• All members are responsible for ensuring we are maintaining and complying with our Operational Plan during each session.
A QR code is available to be scanned by those (who wish to) with the NHS COVID-19 App.
Ros Loft will ensure a track & trace register of attendance is kept for a minimum of 21 days.
Full guidance documents are available, should anyone wish to see them.

Sunday training in Ros's garden.

Due to new changes in the amount of people who can meet in an open space and exercise together, the class is going to open again in a limited capacity. It will be situated in Sensei Ros' back garden which is large enough. only 6 people can train at one time with contact rules applied. the main practise will be jo related, allowing practice with the 2 meter rule in place. There will be cleaning equipment and masks supplied. due to the limited amount of people we will have to arrange some kind of rota if interest is more than the 6 people allowed. the times will be the same as usual, as far as i know right now. it will be weather permitting of course. Please contact through the usual channels, and we will put out latest info over the usual social media platforms. Thank You. Stay safe.
