Today MPs debated Mike Wood MP's Heritage Public Houses Bill which would have offered extra protections in law to stop the nation's heritage pubs from being lost to demolition or conversion.

Mike is the MP for Himley in Staffordshire where the Crooked House was cruelly demolished three years ago, proving the need for stronger planning laws to protect heritage pubs and ensure they are swiftly rebuilt brick-by-brick.

Shamefully, Labour MPs talked for so long that the Bill was effectively blocked and killed off.

We will keep working with Mike Wood and other MPs to convince the Government to do more to protect pubs in the planning system.

🫵 🍺 I need YOUR help

Tomorrow, I will be presenting my Heritage and Public Houses Bill in Parliament, taking an important step towards strengthening protections for our historic pubs and ensuring they never face the same tragic fate as 'The Crooked House' Pub, which once stood in my constituency.

The Government has already blocked my Bill once, which is why it is more important than ever that MPs from across the House come forward, attend tomorrow’s debate and show their support.

The bottom line is: I need more than 100 MPs to attend to give this Bill the best possible chance of progressing.

In the latest B**R Magazine David Jesudason went to meet Lydia Wood Drawings who is aiming to draw every pub in London. David also interviewed Frank Morris who's been painting the beautiful pubs of Bristol.

It all started in 1978 at the second Great British B**r Festival, at Alexandra Palace in London. Back then it was called B**r of the Year, and the first one ended with two champions: Thwaites Best Mild and Fuller’s ESB.

Fuller’s won four of the first seven. Not bad for a brewery that, before CAMRA had made its name, had drawn up plans to go keg and leave cask behind.

Nearly five decades on, it still starts with drinkers. CAMRA members and tasting panels put b**rs forward, area heats whittle them down, and every round is judged blind. The whole thing takes two years.

A win can change a brewery for good. Castle Rock’s Harvest Pale took the title in 2010, and a survey by Nottingham’s CAMRA branch found it was the most widely sold b**r in the city.

This year’s champion is Independence by Bristol B**r Factory. The 2028 winner might be the cask you’re drinking right now.
