Phab

Phab provides safe and fun places for people to feel independent, meet friends and gain confidence. Out of this discussion, Phab was born.

The beginning of Phab can be traced back to 1957 and a holiday course at the National Association of Youth Clubs at Avon Tyrrell in Hampshire. A young disabled man named Terry Rolfe made a speech: he asked for “opportunity, not pity” for disabled people. He asked simply that those with impairments be given a chance to share in a programme of exciting activities on equal terms with non-disabled peo

ple. Mary Robinson, the director of the course, became the founder. Today Phab supports a network of around 150 clubs in all ranges for disabled and non disabled people, offering activities which all members can share and enjoy together. Phab also organises inclusive living experiences at fully accessible outdoor centres at various locations. During 2017, Phab celebrated its Diamond Jubilee. The charity continues to inspire and support people of all ages to make more of life together.

What have you done for the first time this summer? 💜

For many people joining us at Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Centre this week, it's been a chance to try something completely new.

Whether taking to the water, scaling new heights or stepping outside their comfort zone, are all about trying new things and discovering what's possible.

The week may be coming to an end, but there's still one more chapter of our Summer to come, as our Adult Adventure Weekend gets underway later today.

Earlier this year, over 40 members from Whalley Junior Phab Club, Southport Phab Club, I Am Phab - Wirral, Bradford Phab Club, Spring into Action CIC, Me2 Club and Meet 'N' Match came together for an unforgettable Phab Adventure Flying experience at Manchester Barton Aerodrome.

A huge thank you to Freedom in the Air for helping make aviation more inclusive for disabled and non-disabled people, and to LAC Flying School for their fantastic pilots and support throughout the day. 💜

Some heroes wear capes. Others volunteer. 💜

As our superhero-themed Family Adventure Week continues at Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Centre, we'd like to say a huge thank you to all of the incredible volunteers helping to make the week so special.

From supporting participants to lending a hand behind the scenes, our volunteers play a vital role in making possible.

We'd also like to give a special shout-out to Steve, who helped bring our superhero theme to life with decorations kindly donated by Harmes Turner Brown Estate Agents. (Pictured here making a new amphibious friend! 🐸)

Going underground… 💜

We're now past the halfway point of our first Summer Phab Adventure, and what a week it's been so far.

Yesterday, participants swapped open skies for head torches, heading underground to explore cave systems as part of their week at Bendrigg Trust. 🔦

Applications for the 2027 TCS London Marathon Disability Ballot and Assisted Wheelchair Ballot are now open.

We know many people in the Phab community love taking on new adventures, and it doesn't get much bigger than the London Marathon!

Tomorrow, another Summer of begins! 💜

Over the next 2 ½ weeks, we'll be heading off on three back-to-back adventures, giving disabled and non-disabled people the chance to challenge themselves, make new friends and enjoy unforgettable experiences. ✨

First up is Bendrigg Trust, where over 50 children, family members and volunteers will enjoy a week packed with outdoor activities, from climbing and canoeing to campfires and much more.

The following weekend, we head south to Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Centre for our second children's and families adventure, welcoming 75 participants for a week of fun, friendship and adventure.

Then, without missing a beat, we'll round things off with our Adult Adventure Weekend at Avon Tyrrell, bringing together over 50 participants and closing an unforgettable summer of .

We'll be sharing updates throughout the next few weeks, so keep an eye on our channels and follow the journey. 📸
