Phab

Phab provides safe and fun places for people to feel independent, meet friends and gain confidence. Out of this discussion, Phab was born.

The beginning of Phab can be traced back to 1957 and a holiday course at the National Association of Youth Clubs at Avon Tyrrell in Hampshire. A young disabled man named Terry Rolfe made a speech: he asked for “opportunity, not pity” for disabled people. He asked simply that those with impairments be given a chance to share in a programme of exciting activities on equal terms with non-disabled people. Mary Robinson, the director of the course, became the founder. Today Phab supports a network of around 150 clubs in all ranges for disabled and non disabled people, offering activities which all members can share and enjoy together. Phab also organises inclusive living experiences at fully accessible outdoor centres at various locations. During 2017, Phab celebrated its Diamond Jubilee. The charity continues to inspire and support people of all ages to make more of life together.

💜 Uckfield's Town Mayor just abseiled down the Spinnaker Tower for Phab!

Uckfield Town Mayor Cllr Karen Bedwell took on the challenge alongside her husband, the Uckfield Town Crier, and it's only the beginning. Karen has picked Phab as one of her Charities of the Year, and she's already been busy. There's been a race night, an ABBA evening and a sponsored zip wire.

Her family are joining in too, with Ella and Michael running the London Marathon in 2027 for Phab. Thank you, Karen, and everyone backing her!

We're absolutely loving watching Molly on this year's The Great British Bake Off! 🍰✨

Even though Molly already knows the results, the team recently sent her a message to wish her the biggest good luck from everyone here at Phab.

What an achievement to make history as the first non-celebrity wheelchair user to enter the famous tent! 💜

Her biscuit week bake featured the Disability Pride Flag, and Paul Hollywood called it "one of the best chocolate biscuits I’ve had for some time”.

Say hello to Uckfield Mini Phab! 💜

We're thrilled to see the launch of only the second Mini Phab group of its kind in the country, an inclusive and welcoming playgroup toddler group for children aged 0-5, disabled and non-disabled, and their families.

The first session was opened by Uckfield Town Mayor, Cllr Karen Bedwell, and Mims Davies MP, and it was lovely to see so many families there. The club meets every Friday morning at Ridgewood Village Hall.

A huge thank you to the incredible volunteers who have made the club possible. We can't wait to see how it all progresses.

🏃 Missed out on a place for London? All is not lost!

While all of Phab's charity places for both days of the TCS London Marathon have now been allocated, we have a handful of charity places available for the sold-out Adidas Manchester Marathon on 18 April 2027. 💜

As the UK's second-largest marathon, it's a fantastic opportunity to take on 26.2 miles while helping create more opportunities for disabled and non-disabled people to come together through friendship, fun and inclusion.

Final Phab Adventure of 2026: Completed! 💜

Last week, over 25 adults and volunteers joined us at Bendrigg Trust for the final Phab Adventure of 2026.

Bringing together members from Leeds Phab, Whalley Junior Phab Club, Worthing Phab, Spring into Action CIC and individuals from Harrogate, Harrow and Preston, it was a week of challenge, adventure and friendship.

As one parent shared:

"This feels like a turning point in Thomas's life! He is clearly having the best time and enjoying being independent and away from the family."

And from Leeds Phab volunteer, Paul Coast:

"Nothing ever deters the guys; they just go for all the challenges and enjoy the experience and breath-taking thrills. They are all stars."

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, and to our incredible volunteers for making the adventure possible.
