- To bring together women of different political beliefs and philosophies who are united in their determination to study, make known and help abolish the causes and the legitimization of war;
- To work toward world peace; total and universal disarmament; the abolition of violence and coercion in the settlement of conflict and their substitution in every case of negotiation and conciliation; the strengthening of the United Nations system; the continuous development and implementation of international law; political and social equality and economic equity; co-operation among all people; and an environmentally sustainable development.
- Believing that under systems of exploitation these aims cannot be attained and a real and lasting peace and true freedom cannot exist, WILPF makes it one of its missions to further by non- violent means the social and economic transformation of the international community. This would enable the establishment of economic and social systems in which political equality and social justice for all can be attained, without discrimination on the basis of s*x, race, religion, or any other grounds whatsoever.

The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom UK (WILPF UK) fully endorse the campaign for peace and climate justice. The Global Week of Action took place this past week with actions across the country and world to raise awareness about the interconnectedness of these issues. It is time to divest from war and invest in the just transition!

Our world is at a critical juncture, as our people and communities grapple with deepening crises: climate and ecological breakdown, escalating war and militarisation, rising food and energy prices. We have a window of opportunity to secure a safe and sustainable future – free from the tyranny of fossil fuel interests, with decent and dignified work for all – but that window is rapidly closing. Now more than ever, collective action is needed to achieve our vision of a just and equitable fossil-free world. 🌱

WILPF has always been an International organisation, with activists and sections spanning across continents. The issues we work on - militarism, conflict, climate change, human rights - are global in scope and scale. Now, more than ever, the world needs approaches rooted in collective human security. ☮️

we will be joined by Desirée Sterner, who will share insight into the workings of WILPF at an international level and the need for global feminist solidarity in our pursuit for peace. We invite all members, students, activists and people interested to come along and find out more.

WILPF UK has written to the new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, urging him to take an approach for Britain which puts people before weapons, diplomacy before militarism and brings hope not fear. Ever increasing investment in preparing for war will not bring about peace nor security, it only contributes to increasing global instability.

There is an urgent need for us to rethink what ‘security’ actually means - does it mean billions spent on nuclear weapons that can not and must never be used, or does it mean investing in diplomacy, climate resilience, functioning public services - including health and eduction, tackling extreme inequality?

It is time to away from war mongering and toward the pursuit of dealing with the issues that affect people on a day-day basis.
