We receive funding from a range of donors including governments, the European Commission, trusts and individuals. Saferworld works in a number of regions affected by violent conflict and the proliferation of small arms and light weapons. Saferworld has signed a joint statement led by Palestinian human rights organisations in response to the European Union’s decision not to suspend the EU‑Israel Association Agreement.

The EU and its Member States must act in line with the legal obligations by suspending the Agreement, ending all forms of complicity with Israel’s serious violations of international law and taking concrete measures to uphold accountability. Only immediate and concrete action can begin to restore the EU’s credibility and uphold its commitments to human rights, international humanitarian law and genocide prevention in the context of Gaza.

Three years into the devastating war in Sudan, civilians continue to bear the brunt of devastating violence, displacement, and a deepening humanitarian crisis. Political fragmentation, restricted humanitarian access, and systematic abuses persist, while the risks to civilians continue to grow.

Yet Sudanese people and civil society remain on the frontlines, sustaining communities and responding under life‑threatening conditions. After three years of immense suffering, sustainable peace will only be possible if Sudanese civilians are central to shaping inclusive, civilian‑led pathways to peace and international engagement moves to sustained, strategic, and coordinated political action grounded in local perspectives and priorities.

Three years into Sudan’s war, civilians face escalating violence and humanitarian crisis. Lasting peace depends on civilian‑led, inclusive pathways and coordinated international action.

The renewed emphasis on prevention and prioritisation of fragile and conflict affected contexts by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) is an important starting point. But ambition must be matched with resources.

Significant cuts to the aid budget risk undermining the UK’s ability to deliver on these priorities in practice. We urge the UK government to turn these commitments into a fully resourced, strategic approach that supports lasting peace.

This , we are spotlighting the powerful stories of building peace being written by women at the local level. Our report brings these often untold stories to light.

From the frontlines of conflict in Nigeria, Yemen and South Sudan, it shows what happens when women’s rights organisations receive direct, flexible funding to lead.

“This space is more than shelter, it’s a place of healing, learning, and rebuilding dignity for girls and women who have nowhere else to turn.” ~Grace Dorong, Root of Generations, South Sudan

“I now realise that I have a contribution to make as a woman.” ~Nafisat Alhassan, Women’s Peace Network, Nigeria

“The project allowed us to register our organisation, develop strategic policy documents and access new funding. We’re now better positioned to support GBV survivors and advocate for policy change." ~ Coalition for the Promotion of Gender Justice (CPGJ)

These stories of leadership, protection and economic empowerment show what is possible when resources are placed directly in the hands of communities.

Young people in Osh and Batken are taking the lead in strengthening dialogue, improving relationships with local authorities and contributing to safer, more supportive communities in Kyrgyzstan.

Through the IDem project, youth groups designed and delivered action plans that reflect the issues they see as most important – including mental well‑being, trust between generations and more effective cooperation with community and government institutions. Participants also took part in training on leadership, peacebuilding and mental health, helping them build the confidence and skills to engage with decision-makers.

Fifteen action plans have now been implemented, reaching around 3,000 people across both regions. Many participants have since been invited to join youth councils operating under the formal framework of local authorities, where they continue contributing to local decision-making and community development.

Their work highlights how meaningful support for young people, combined with constructive engagement between communities and authorities, can help build lasting peace and strengthen social cohesion.

Learn more about the experience of the young people involved in this short video.
