Islington u3a has something for all. Each month, everyone is welcome to our Speaker Meetings with tea, coffee and cake. As well, we offer monthly pub lunches, coffee mornings and outings to places of interest. We hold an annual Summer Party, popular pop-ups, such as Pub Quizzes and Clue Trails, plus more than 80 different interest groups.

The sun shone brightly, winter definitely felt gone, temperatures soared and members of the Islington u3a “Art in London” group visited Kew Gardens. What a wonderful day. Strolling around the expansive gardens, while looking at the thirty different, intriguing and interesting, Henry Moore statues, currently on display there. It’s a very interesting outdoor exhibition and the entry fee also includes the offer of an excellent free guided talk. Wonderful outing!

It was a very proud day on Sunday for Islington, when the streets turned red, as more than a million people attended Arsenal's Premier League trophy parade. It was a huge community celebration, joined by fans from other parts of the UK and from all over the world. Islington u3a is very proud to be part of that community and congratulate Arsenal on their win and creating a wonderful day of community spirit.

There’s a new group in town! Yes, Islington u3a now have “Dance: Let’s Dance”. If you enjoy dancing in the kitchen, to your old favourite tunes, then this is for you! Everyone is welcome to these monthly Friday sessions, to be held 5-6pm. Dance in a friendly, sociable setting, to a great mix of music from the 60s, 70s and 80s. The new Islington u3a Archaeology Group is already very active, with more than 30 members and planned activities for the rest of 2026. Group co-ordinator, Keith, hosted their second meeting, which included talks on the “Sutton Hoo” and “Archaeological sites in Orkney”. If you have never been to Chelsea Physic Garden, you are in for a treat. It is a unique and tranquil place in the heart of London. Islington u3a have planned an outing there for all members on Tuesday 9th June. The Chelsea Physic Garden is home to over 4,500 medicinal, edible and useful plants. Visitors can discover the plant collection, or simply relax and enjoy the four acres of green space in central London. After the visit there will be an opportunity, with other members, for a (optional) lunch together.

The Islington u3a Clues Trail held in the City of London, last Sunday, was a great success and good fun. The starting point was the historic building of the Crosse Keys Pub, before participants were taken round in circles, down alley ways and through the ancient lanes of the city. They needed to follow the trail instructions, while looking out for sights such as stone crickets and the smallest statue in London.

The Islington u3a monthly meeting will be held on Thursday 28th May at St Mary’s in Upper Street, N1 2TX.
Interested to learn what politicians won’t tell us about the economy? Our speaker this month, Vicky Pryce, will.
Hear what she has to say about forces that have shaped the UK economy since the Industrial Revolution. Post-war dips into Keynesianism, Monetarism and Exchange Rate Targeting are evaluated. So, too, are her views on the effects of Brexit, Covid, and the war in Ukraine. Not to mention the current threat posed by the Middle East conflict. And AI.

Members of the very active Islington u3a Opera group are constantly enjoying a large variety of operas, available in London. It’s amazing what is on offer, at an accessible price. Recently they enjoyed The Royal Opera House screening, at local cinemas, of “The Magic Flute”. A wonderful production to see close up.
