August is National Wellness Month, reminding us that good health involves caring for our minds, bodies and spirits.

At Grace Organisation, supporting wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. Through gentle exercise classes, singing sessions, nutritious meals, social activities, friendship and emotional support, we help our clients enjoy healthier and more fulfilling lives.

Even small daily habits—keeping active, drinking plenty of water, getting enough rest and staying socially connected—can make a significant difference to our overall wellbeing.

Reliable and accessible transport plays a vital role in helping older adults remain active, independent and connected to their community.

Many of our clients rely on Grace's transport service to attend the centre, participate in activities and maintain valuable social connections. Without suitable transport, many would find it difficult or impossible to access the support and companionship that Grace provides.

Over the past year, we have continued to strengthen our transport provision through the addition of our newer minibus and ongoing improvements to the way we coordinate journeys. These developments help us provide a safer, more comfortable and reliable service for our clients.

Improved transportation contributes to:

🚐 Reduced isolation and loneliness

🚐 Greater independence and confidence

🚐 Increased participation in activities and events

🚐 Improved access to wellbeing support

🚐 Peace of mind for families and carers

We remain committed to exploring further ways to enhance our transport services so that more people can benefit from everything Grace has to offer.

As we continue to improve our transport services, we would love to hear from you.

If you have any ideas, suggestions or feedback on how we can make our transportation service even better for our clients, carers and families, please let us know. Your views are important to us and help shape the future of Grace Organisation.

Please speak to a member of staff, give us a call on 020 8808 0718, or email us at [email protected].

Working together, we can continue to make Grace more accessible, inclusive and responsive to the needs of our community.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Veolia (representative pictured) for their generous donation of two microwave ovens to Grace Organisation.

These microwaves will be a valuable addition to our day care centre, helping us to prepare and serve hot meals and refreshments more efficiently for our clients. Small acts of generosity like this make a real difference to the day-to-day running of our services and help us continue to provide a warm, welcoming and caring environment for the older adults we support.

We are incredibly grateful to Veolia for choosing to support Grace Organisation and for investing in the wellbeing of our local community.

Thank you, Veolia, for helping us make a positive difference to the lives of older adults in Haringey and Enfield.

Grace Organisation would like to welcome new volunteers to support our work.

We are particularly looking for:

🚐 Volunteer Drivers
Could you help transport our clients safely to and from the centre or assist with occasional outings? Flexible hours are available to fit around your existing commitments.

🎹 Volunteer Keyboard or Piano Players
Music brings joy, stimulates memories and encourages connection—particularly for those living with dementia. We would love to welcome someone who could play the keyboard or piano during our sessions. The commitment is entirely flexible.

💙 General Volunteers
We are always delighted to hear from people who would like to support our activities, spend time chatting with clients, assist with events, help at mealtimes, accompany outings, or simply offer a listening ear and a friendly smile.

Flexible hours are available for all volunteering opportunities.

If you, a family member, friend, church member or colleague would be interested in finding out more, we would love to hear from you.

July is Good Care Month, a national campaign that recognises the dedication of those who provide care and support to others.

At Grace, we are blessed with a committed team of staff, volunteers and supporters who work tirelessly to ensure our clients feel valued, respected and cared for.

Their kindness, patience and compassion help create an environment where older adults can thrive socially, emotionally and physically.

We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributes to the Grace family and helps make a positive difference each day.

The last few days have brought unusually high temperatures across London, with heat warnings issued to help protect those most at risk. Older adults can be particularly vulnerable to the effects of hot weather, so it is important to take extra care during periods of extreme heat.

Here are some simple ways to stay safe:

☀️ Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you do not feel thirsty.

☀️ Stay indoors during the hottest part of the day where possible (usually between 11am and 3pm).

☀️ Keep your home cool by closing curtains or blinds in sunny rooms.

☀️ Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and a sun hat when outdoors.

☀️ Apply sunscreen and seek shade whenever possible.

☀️ Check in on family members, friends and neighbours who may need extra support during hot weather.

At Grace, we continue to encourage hydration throughout the day and take steps to ensure our clients remain comfortable and safe during periods of high temperatures.

Remember: if you feel dizzy, unusually tired, confused or unwell during hot weather, seek medical advice promptly.

At Grace Organisation, we recognise that ongoing staff development is essential in providing high-quality, compassionate and safe care.

This year, we are continuing to create more opportunities for staff and volunteers to access training and professional development in areas such as:

dementia awareness
health and wellbeing
Training helps equip our team with the knowledge and confidence needed to support clients effectively while maintaining dignity, professionalism and compassion.

By investing in our staff, we are investing in the wellbeing and experience of those we serve.

We wish all our fathers, grandfathers and father figures a very happy Father's Day.

Today, we take time to celebrate and honour the fathers, grandfathers and father figures within our Grace family and community.

Father's Day is an opportunity to recognise the love, guidance, sacrifice and strength that so many men have shown throughout their lives. Many of our clients have devoted years to caring for their families, working hard to provide for loved ones, passing on wisdom and values, and supporting future generations.

At Grace, we believe that every life has a story worth celebrating. We are grateful for the memories, experiences and examples of resilience shared by the men who attend and work at our centre. Their contributions continue to enrich our community and inspire those around them.

For those who may find Father's Day difficult due to bereavement, estrangement or loss, please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We remember with gratitude those fathers and father figures who are no longer with us, whose love and legacy continue to live on in the hearts of their families.

This week is Loneliness Awareness Week (15–21 June)

Loneliness can have a significant impact on physical and emotional wellbeing, particularly for older adults.

Through friendship, activities, conversation and companionship, Grace continues to provide opportunities for individuals to remain socially connected and engaged.

Whether through a shared meal, exercise session, singing activity or simple conversation, every moment of connection matters.

As we enter the month of June and begin to enjoy the warmer weather and longer days, we are reminded of the importance of staying connected, active and supported within our community.

June is a month that highlights wellbeing, carers, friendship and community spirit — values that are central to the work of Grace Organisation every day. Through our activities, personalised care and support services, we continue to promote dignity, independence and meaningful connection for older adults and vulnerable members of our community.
