Fastminds Adult ADHD Support Group

Fastminds Adult ADHD Support Group Fastminds is a non-profit peer-lead support group in Kingston for adults with ADHD or suspected ADHD

Our aims are to promote and protect the physical and mental health of adults affected by ADHD, improve their quality of life, and promote social inclusion among adults with ADHD in Kingston and surrounding areas. We do this by:
• Running regular support group meetings (in person and on Zoom) for knowledge sharing and open discussions.
• Running monthly (via Zoom) for talks by specialist speakers on topics related to ADHD
• Running regular art group sessions – because Neurodiverse folks often find it easier to express ourselves creatively, and selling artwork and merchandise created by our Members helps us raise funds for our group
• Organising events to raise awareness of ADHD, co-occurring conditions and Neurodiversity, and raise money for our group. For example, you may have attended one of our Neurodiverse Arts Festivals, and you’ll often find our stall at The Hampton Inspired Hub monthly bazaar.
• Offering advocacy and general support to our Members (if Volunteers are available) - accompanying them to appointments; helping them get a referral for an assessment; helping them fill in forms; etc.
• offering trauma-informed training - to the public and professionals

Yet another completely misleading and frustrating click-bait headline from the BBC!😡😤

Surely what it should probably have said was that the government's analysts cocked up, didn't understand the wider implications of being neurodivergent, didn't take neurodivergence seriously enough and under estimated the number of cases likely to be assessed/diagnosed, and consequently not enough investment had been put into training enough practitioners to cope with demands?

ADHD and autism at risk of over-diagnosis, says report, as author speaks to BBC - BBC News

The government-commissioned review, which covers England, also says better support is needed for young people with mental health problems.

Hello everyone, we're asking for your help. Just 2 minutes. 🙏

There are some life changing reforms being proposed by Government that will impact every child with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The White Paper shows that children's and parents' rights will be reduced - the most staggering of all, the right to go to a tribunal will be removed.

Many parents and carers we know have had to take their local authority to a SEND tribunal to get the Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) that their children need and are entitled to.

However, if the government has its way there will be no recourse to tribunal.

Imagine if your neuro-different child needed to ‘fit’ into one of seven categories to determine their school placement and provision.

Imagine the same child having no say in anything to do with their education, and having to tell them that despite loving them to the moon and back again you're unable to get appropriate support for them when they need it to improve their prospects and protect their future because of a system that claims to use a strengths based approach to promote independence, but doesn't in reality.

The innocent children who become victims of its proposed scheme will be deprived of happier, healthier and more productive lives simply because they were unlucky enough to be born with differences that make them square pegs in "the system's" round holes.

Who will proactively provide appropriate Advocacy and support to the victims as they get older, and to their exhausted parents and carers when they eventually run out of energy to fight for justice or pass away?

If you are able to add your signature to this petition for the reforms to be debated I would be most grateful.

Thank you ###x ps feel free to share 😉

I believe that the Government’s proposed SEND reforms could limit EHCPs, weaken legal rights, replace individual plans with packages, reduce appeals, and remove school choice. In my view, children could be left without the support they need as a result.

Thanks to the generosity of those who have very kindly donated to our GoFundMe appeal, a whopping £1,725 has been raised (in just 12 days!), which is 60% of the way to our £2,900 target!

We'd really appreciate any support you can give to help us raise the remaining £1,175, as we desperately want to see the "old" Sheena back at our support group meetings again soon!🙏🤞

DATE FOR YOUR DIARY

On Saturday 10th October our talented member Anna Dyson will be singing with her band at the Autumn '26 Lionfest (a free family friendly music festival) at The Red Lion Pub in Teddington (164, Stanley road, Teddington, United Kingdom, TW11 8UD).

https://www.facebook.com/events/940539495776448/

From 12 noon - 9pm you can enjoy a BBQ (it's a gastro pub, so the food should be good!), face painting, stalls, and of course performances by local bands (Anna will be performing at 5pm).

The 33, 281, 481, 681 and N33 buses stop right outside.

Enjoy!

Hypermobility is common amongst ADHD-ers and neurodivergent people.

Often we struggle with health issues like POTS which stops us from being able to take ADHD medication.

Wouldn't it be great if our first referral was to just one consultant who specialises in understanding the connection between hypermobility, POTS, gastroenteritis, MCAS and other associated conditions?

They should be coordinating our care instead of multiple niche consultants working in isolation without joining up the dots,

HELP NEEDED FOR THE FOUNDER OF OUR ADHD "TRIBE"

Our Fastminds community has been built on kindness, understanding, and people showing up for one another when it matters most. Today, we're asking for that same support for someone who has spent years helping so many of us: Sheena Crankson.

She's a ridiculously independent person and doesn't like having to ask for help, but this time is different - pain is a great motivator!

Please give what you can so Sheena can get the private medical treatment she urgently needs to reduce the excruciating pain she's in (because of a trapped nerve in her back) and get her back on her feet, rather than have to potentially put her life on hold for months waiting for an NHS appointment.

Should this appeal be fortunate enough to raise more than our GoFundMe target, any remaining funds will be donated directly to our support group, so we can continue building on the valuable work that Sheena so generously and selflessly started doing back in 2013 - ie. promoting and protecting the physical and mental health of adults affected by ADHD and making life easier for Neurodivergent individuals and their families in Kingston and the surrounding areas - whether diagnosed with ADHD or not.

Thank you.

This is important and relevant - Neurodivergent people in particular need to be aware of FASD and the harm alcohol can have on unborn babies.

As someone who was told to that a client was going to be prosecuted because her traumatised (and probably neurodivergent) teenager was refusing to go to school, I'm very much looking forward to watching this movie.
