Joydens Wood WI tonight welcomed Jo Livingstone who gave is a very informative talk entitled “Fire”. A history of the Fire Brigade including her family’s 4 generational part in it. Both the leather bucket and the helmet pictured are over 100 years old.
We also held a Spring Flower arrangement competition. Members voted and the winner was Barbara Schultze with runner up Rita Wright.

This evening Joydens Wood WI welcomed Mr Paul Beard who spoke about Barnardo’s. A short history and information about the charity’s work in the present day. He also spoke of his family’s experience with fostering. Some members remembered having a Dr Barnardo’s collecting box at home when we were younger.

After tea and cake and a short business meeting members had a go at an “All the answers begin with A quiz”.

Today Carolyn, Diane, Joan and Barbara enjoyed the annual Lifestyle day at Ditton Community Centre. We enjoyed 3 very informative talks from Stephan and Lucy about the benefits of keeping active, Bob Ogley ( pictured) about the Great Storm of 1987 and the founder of Tunbridge Wells Repair cafe.
Oh, and Carolyn won first prize in the raffle and brought home a lovely leather handbag!

Joydens Wood WI enjoyed A Night at the Musicals this evening courtesy of a group of talented performers from Erith Operatic Society. We were pleased to welcome members from our local sister WIs and friends groups who also enjoyed tea and cake and a raffle.
An excellent evening was had by all!

22 members of Joydens Wood WI enjoyed a Harvest Supper and Autumn quiz this evening. These ladies have been friends for a long time and enjoy catching up and sharing news each month.

Joydens Wood WI’s next meeting on Tuesday 15th July will include a talk by Chris Hare on “The A-Z of Show Business “.

Visitors are very welcome , 50p on the door to include tea and cake! 7.30pm for a 7.45pm start. There’ll be books and jigsaws for sale too and a raffle.

The August meeting will include a talk by Adam Taylor on “The Islands of the Medway Estuary “
