For one mother, accessing medical care can mean walking long distances simply because she cannot afford the journey.

Across Greater Cairo and other areas of Egypt where forcibly displaced Sudanese families live, essential healthcare and humanitarian services are often concentrated in central locations. For families living further away, transport costs, distance and limited resources can make accessing support extremely difficult.

And for Sudanese women and children, there simply are not enough free, accessible services reaching the communities where they live.

This is why Goodwill Caravan wants to expand our mobile services across Egypt.

We want to take our Mother & Baby mobile medical clinic, maternal and newborn healthcare, mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), legal assistance and essential aid distributions closer to forcibly displaced Sudanese women, mothers, babies and children who face barriers to accessing support.

Your support can help us bring healthcare and humanitarian assistance closer to the communities who need it most.

Early detection can make a difference.

This October, Goodwill Caravan is raising awareness about breast cancer and encouraging women to prioritise their health, know the signs, and seek medical advice if they notice something unusual.

For women facing displacement, poverty or barriers to healthcare, accessing essential health services can be even more difficult. Awareness is an important first step, but access to timely, quality healthcare matters too.

At Goodwill Caravan, we believe women and mothers should be able to access the healthcare and support they need with dignity.

She has been living with untreated diabetes for months. Now, she is at risk of losing her legs.

This is one of the women Goodwill Caravan’s medical team recently visited in Cairo.

A forcibly displaced Sudanese woman living with severe diabetes, she told our doctor that she had been unable to afford insulin and essential diabetes medication for months.

Without regular treatment, her condition has deteriorated severely.

She is now living with infected wounds and gangrene. She has been cleaning and treating her wounds herself because she cannot afford proper medical care. She also told our doctor that she has been experiencing severe back pain for seven months, but has been unable to afford the medical investigations needed to understand its cause.

Our doctor assessed her condition and found that she urgently needs medical consultation, investigations, treatment and medication.

Without timely medical intervention, there is a serious risk that the infection could worsen and lead to amputation.

She should not have to choose between buying food and buying the medicine she needs to manage diabetes.

A child should not have to lose their education because they were forced to leave home.

For Sudanese children forcibly displaced to Egypt, conflict and displacement can interrupt school, learning and the sense of stability that comes with it.

At Goodwill Caravan’s Sallam Centre in Cairo, our team is conducting education assessments for forcibly displaced Sudanese children so we can understand their learning needs, enrol them in appropriate classes and help them continue their education.

Because education is more than a classroom.

It can restore routine.
It can build confidence.
It can keep a child connected to their future.

With the right support, a child who has experienced displacement can begin learning again and take another step towards the future they deserve.

At the Sallam Centre in Cairo, our team took a moment to read messages of hope, kindness and encouragement left for them, before adding their own words for the next person to find.

For many of our staff, this sense of community carries an even deeper meaning. Sallam Centre is not only a place where we support forcibly displaced families from Sudan and Palestine, but also a place where forcibly displaced people are part of our team, contributing their skills, supporting others and building their own futures.
