What can a pair of hands learn to create?

At Sallam Centre in Cairo, crochet is becoming more than a new skill to learn. It is an opportunity to create something that can grow into a source of income.

For forcibly displaced Palestinian women, learning crochet offers a practical skill that requires relatively little to get started and uses materials that are widely accessible. With the right support, these skills can become small businesses, helping women earn and contribute towards their families’ needs.

And learning doesn’t always happen alone. In this session, mothers, children and members of our team joined in, learning the craft together and discovering what can be made with a simple thread and a pair of hands.

A skill can start small. The opportunity it creates doesn’t have to.

Your support helps us create more livelihood and skills-building opportunities for forcibly displaced families at Sallam Centre.

Donate to help us keep creating opportunities.

What does healing look like after displacement? Sometimes, it looks like singing a song you grew up with, sharing henna, sitting together, and hearing familiar traditions come alive again.

At Sallam Centre in Cairo, Sudanese mothers and their children came together for a day celebrating Sudanese traditions as part of our group psychosocial support programme.

From traditional songs and group singing to henna and time spent together, the day created space for women to reconnect with familiar cultural traditions, share experiences and enjoy time together with their children.

For women who have been forced to flee their homes, psychosocial support is an essential part of navigating the emotional impact of displacement. Creating spaces for connection, cultural expression and shared experiences can be an important part of supporting emotional wellbeing.

Your donation can help us continue providing MHPSS support to forcibly displaced women and families at Sallam Centre.

Support a mother. Support her wellbeing. Help make continued psychosocial care possible.

What do you hold onto when you’re forced to flee home?

For forcibly displaced Palestinian children at Sallam Centre, Dabke is one way of staying connected to their heritage and the culture they carry with them.

Through our wellbeing programme, children are learning the dance, exploring its meaning and creating a space where their Palestinian heritage can be shared and celebrated.

We asked one child what Dabke means to them.

His answer says it best.

What happens to the trauma that mothers carry with them?

For forcibly displaced Sudanese mothers, reaching safety does not mean leaving the emotional impact of conflict and displacement behind. Many continue to navigate fear, loss, uncertainty and the effects of experiences that can be difficult to process.

At Sallam Centre in Cairo, our group psychosocial support sessions provide mothers with a dedicated space to talk, listen and learn practical ways to cope with the effects of trauma.

During this session, mothers were introduced to trauma tapping, a technique they can use as part of their coping toolkit when difficult emotions arise.

Psychosocial support is an essential part of humanitarian care. Because when we respond to displacement, we must care not only for what people have lost, but for what they continue to carry.

Your support helps us continue providing psychosocial care to forcibly displaced mothers who need it.

Education should not stop because a child was forced to flee.

For many forcibly displaced Palestinian and Sudanese children in Cairo, displacement has interrupted their education, leaving them behind academically and without the stability of a regular classroom.

At Goodwill Caravan’s Sallam Centre, our Education Programme provides tailored catch-up learning, a supportive classroom environment and opportunities for children to learn, create, play and regain the skills they need to continue their education.

Because catching up is not only about completing missed lessons. It is about helping children move forward with the confidence, knowledge and opportunities to take their next step.

Your support can help a forcibly displaced child return to learning and keep their education moving forward. Donation link in bio 💚

If we ever made a documentary about what it means to become a mother after being forced to flee, there would be a lot of stories to tell.

Stories of women navigating pregnancy without consistent access to healthcare. Mothers struggling to find nutritious food, essential medicines and basic supplies for their babies. Women arriving at our clinic with nutritional deficiencies, health concerns and questions about how to care for their children with the resources available to them.

These are some of the realities we see at our Mother & Baby Clinic at Sallam Centre in Cairo, where forcibly displaced mothers and babies from Sudan and Palestine receive healthcare, nutritional support, essential supplies and practical health information.

Maybe these stories belong on a screen.

But more importantly, they deserve our attention now.

Your support helps us provide the care these mothers and babies need today. Donate Now via link in our bio

For many forcibly displaced children, recovery doesn’t end with reaching safety. Injuries, disabilities and untreated medical conditions can continue to affect how they move, learn and experience childhood.

At Sallam Centre in Cairo, our physiotherapy programme helps children from Sudan and Palestine improve their mobility, build strength and gain greater independence through regular rehabilitation sessions tailored to their individual needs.

Every exercise, every stretch and every small achievement is part of a much bigger journey—one that gives children the opportunity to participate more fully in school, play and everyday life.

Your support helps provide access to essential rehabilitation services, giving more children the opportunity to reach milestones that once felt out of reach.

Together, we can help every child take the next step forward.

Every mother deserves access to healthcare. Every child deserves the opportunity to grow up healthy.

For many forcibly displaced families from Sudan and Palestine, access to maternal and child healthcare, nutritious food and reliable health information remains out of reach. Conditions that are preventable or easily treated can become serious when families are unable to access timely care.

Our recent Mother & Baby Clinic at Sallam Centre in Cairo was designed to help address these challenges. Mothers and children received health assessments, nutritional supplements, Vitamin D, oral rehydration solutions and practical guidance on nutrition, including affordable sources of iron and healthy feeding practices.

Healthcare is more than treatment. It is prevention, education and ensuring that mothers have the knowledge and resources to care for their children with confidence.

With your support, we can continue providing essential healthcare services to forcibly displaced mothers and babies who need them most.

Help us ensure that no mother or child is left without the care they deserve.
