HIAS + JCORE Supporting refugees, led by Jewish values

HIAS+JCORE is a Jewish organisation that works both inside and outside the Jewish community to provide a Jewish voice on race and asylum issues in the UK. We educate on both these issues, campaign for and provide direct support to refugees and asylum seekers and work with other communities and faiths to strengthen our relationships through dialogue.

"With this programme, we provide students with knowledge about refugees, but also we teach them to be proud of being Jewish. They understand our responsibility as Jews and our commitment to creating communities of welcome.”

Over the past nine months, we've been working with an incredible group of university students, putting Jewish values into action to speak out for refugees.

Run alongside UJS - Union of Jewish Students, we've reached 50 students at more than 25 campuses across the UK.

We're so proud of everything the programme has acheived so far - visit HIAS' website to learn more!

Did you know that 2026 marks 50 years since JCORE was founded?

To celebrate, we're releasing a new book - 'Not only for ourselves', the history of JCORE - and we'd love you to join our launch event at JW3 (17 June, 7pm-9pm).

This fascinating book explores our role leading Jewish anti-racist activism since 1976.

You'll hear from Lord Simon Woolley, Dawn Butler MP, the book's author Dr Joseph Finlay, and our Executive Director Rabbi David Mason and Honorary President Dr Edie Friedman.

This Government has all too often failed refugees and people seeking asylum.

We're concerned that today's King's Speech leads us further down an unwelcoming, hostile path.

As we move into the new parliamentary term, we need political leaders to show solidarity and return compassion to policy.

What is the ‘Danish model’ - and how is it shaping the UK’s hostile response to asylum?

Join us on 27 May (6.30pm-8pm) to learn about the controversial approach inspiring the Home Secretary’s deterrence-based asylum policy.

From scrapping permanent refugee status to introducing complex routes to settlement, Shabana Mahmood is implementing major restrictions to refugee protection.

HIAS+JCORE is deeply distressed by the stabbing attack on two Jewish men in Golders Green this morning. We are relieved to hear that both individuals are now in a stable condition, and we wish them a quick and full recovery.

This is a difficult and unsettling time for the UK Jewish community. Today’s attack is sadly just the latest in a series of worrying antisemitic incidents that we need an urgent end to. It is simply unacceptable that British Jews are facing fear as they go about their everyday lives.

There can never be any place in our society for violence and hate – whether it is directed at our community, or anyone else. In the face of these challenges, we remain committed to working alongside others to confront hatred, build solidarity, and create the better, safer country we all need.

Could you support our mission for a UK where refugees have a fair chance to thrive?

We're seeking a new Treasurer and recruiting for a Fundraising Trustee - two pivotal roles which are crucial to enabling our work.

With the far-right on the rise, and refugee rights increasingly under attack, our voice and transformative projects are more important than ever.

So if you’re inspired by our work empowering displaced people these could be the perfect opportunities to get involved.

You’ll make a real difference, bringing expertise and guidance to oversee our finances as Treasurer; or helping HIAS+JCORE strengthen and diversify our income as Fundraising Trustee.

We’ve had three incredible years since the launch of our partnership with HIAS.

Working together has been amazing and we’re so proud of everything we’ve already achieved.

But we’re only just getting started. We’ve got big plans for 2026 – from building on the success of this year’s Refugee Shabbat, with new projects like Our Open Kitchen, to expanding our JUMP befriending programme to Brighton and Hove, there’s lots of meaningful ways to get involved.

Watch this space – we’d love you to join us!
