Engineering Council The Engineering Council is the UK regulatory body for the engineering profession.

We hold the national registers of professionally registered engineers and technicians (EngTech, IEng, CEng and ICTTech). As the regulatory body for the UK engineering profession, the Engineering Council sets and maintains internationally recognised standards of professional competence and commitment. These are detailed in the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC) and the Information and Communications Technology Technician (ICTTech) Standard. We also hold the national register of over 230,000 engineers and technicians who have been assessed against these standards and awarded one of our professional titles:

Engineering Technician (EngTech)
Incorporated Engineer (IEng)
Chartered Engineer (CEng)
Information and Communications Technology Technician (ICTTech)

The award and retention of these titles ensures that employers, government and wider society – both in the UK and overseas – can have confidence in the knowledge, experience and commitment of engineers and technicians on the register.

Welcome to the Chartered Institute of Information Security (CIISec), now licensed by the Engineering Council to assess members for professional registration.

As organisations grow ever more reliant on complex and interconnected technologies, it is becoming increasingly important for cyber security professionals to exercise engineering judgment, professional responsibility and ethical practice in securing the systems modern society depends upon.

Through its licence, CIISec will be able to assess members for Chartered Engineer (CEng) and Incorporated Engineer (IEng) titles, providing a dedicated pathway into professional registration with the Engineering Council for cyber security professionals.

Engineering Council CEO Paul Bailey said:
“Cyber security is fundamental to the resilience and safety of our increasingly connected world. Providing cyber security professionals with a clear route to Chartered and Incorporated Engineer registration strengthens recognition of their expertise. These titles also provide greater confidence in the competence and commitment to professionalism, safety, ethics and continuous learning of those working to protect our digital infrastructure.”
