To end Carers Week 2026 and this year’s theme, Building Carer Friendly Communities, we were proud to celebrate the incredible contribution of unpaid carers across Islay & Jura.

Despite the weather, it was lovely to welcome carers to our Coffee & Cake Drop-In, a chance to relax, connect and share in a friendly, supportive space. A big thank you to Fay and Lesley for the delicious homemade cakes and endless tea and coffee! Carers also went home with pamper gifts, which were very well received.

We also hosted a Seated Yoga session, giving carers some well deserved time to unwind and focus on their wellbeing.

Events like these help reduce isolation, strengthen connections and ensure carers feel recognised, valued and supported within their communities.

This week in Mid Argyll, we celebrated Carers Week 2026 with a programme of social activities focused on connection, community and support.

These welcoming events, with lots of delicious food to enjoy together, created space for conversations, shared experiences and new friendships, highlighting the vital role that community and peer support can play in helping carers feel less isolated.

Aligned with this year’s theme, Building Carer Friendly Communities, the week emphasised how important it is for local people, groups and services to come together to create an environment where unpaid carers feel understood, valued and supported.

A big thank you to everyone who came along, and a special thank you to Liz for volunteering her time to support the events and help make the week so welcoming and enjoyable.

Together, we are building carer friendly communities.

This Carers Week, we enjoyed an energising wellness day at West Loch Wellness, focused on supporting Parent Carers. The day included a spin class, relaxing massages from JacquiB and access to the wellness suite featuring infrared and Nordic saunas, a plunge pool, ice bath and natural river spa. We also enjoyed protein smoothies and lunch at Corranbuie Cafe.

This was a chance for us to recognise and celebrate the invaluable role unpaid carers play in our communities every day. By promoting Community and Health we are helping to build carer-friendly communities where carers are understood, appreciated and supported to thrive in all areas of their lives.
