LAAS Recovery Advocacy Project Argyll & Bute

LAAS Recovery Advocacy Project Argyll & Bute LAAS operates our Recovery Advocacy Project in Kintyre, Cowal and Bute and Helensburgh We also have a number of specially targeted projects.

Lomond & Argyll Advocacy Service operates over West Dunbartonshire and Argyll & Bute.

We aim to provide independent advocacy to adults who use community care services. Our priority groups are adults with a learning disability, adults who use mental health services and people over 65. This page is for our:

Recovery Advocacy Project (RAP) - for people in recovery from problematic alcohol and subs

tance use in Helensburgh, Kintyre and on the Isle of Bute. We have fully trained Peer Advocacy workers in these areas. Our advocacy service is free, independent, and confidential. Would you like help to speak out and be heard? Would you like someone to help support you? Advocacy is another name for helping someone say what they want. It involves an individual (or group) being supported to speak up by independent trained advocacy workers. Many thanks to everyone who joined our Recovery Advocate on Bute on Monday to discuss the development of our services. The support of Scottish Recovery Consortium was very welcomed and they will continue to connect with people on Bute.

Lots of excellent suggestions were made on how Recovery Advocacy can improve our visibility across the island and enable people to feel confident in reaching out to us. We are going to look carefully at the suggestions.

If you would like to speak to our recovery advocacy worker then please contact Sam on 07736872791

Thank you all again!

“No one chooses to be judged. People in Scotland living with alcohol or drug problems deserve compassion, not labels. Let’s talk about people, not ‘addicts’. If you’re worried about someone, listening without judgement is a powerful first step. Find out more about ending stigma here:”

We want to hear about your experience with MAT.

Our Peer Research and Engagement team is inviting people to share their experiences of accessing Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT).

This opportunity is open to people living in Argyll and Bute, East Dunbartonshire, Fife, and Highland who access support for alcohol or drug use, as well as family members of people receiving MAT in these four areas.

You can find out more details here: https://buff.ly/Lzvi7mb

By sharing your experience, you can help to ensure that the voices of people with lived and living experience – and their families – shape the future of treatment and support services across Scotland.

Sam (our recovery advocate on Bute) had a great meeting last week at the We Are With You community hub weekly Tuesday meeting. Alienergy's representative on Bute took some of the members through some of the ways people can get help with energy advice financially as winter ramps up.

It's always great to come together with other services to support the local community.
Advocacy helps to get your voice heard and feel supported. To find out more about advocacy or make a referral visit www.laas.org.uk
