TCV Hollybush

TCV Hollybush Hollybush in Kirkstall is an environmental volunteering centre that has been running for over 45 years. We welcome people of all backgrounds and experience.

Our volunteers help to manage green spaces across Leeds and beyond. Hollybush is a busy environmental conservation centre in West Leeds offering volunteering opportunities and courses in practical conservation, gardening, woodwork and crafts. It is also home to The Hollybush Project which runs nature-based activities for adult with learning difficulties, and the Hollybush Community Cafe which is open to the public. As part of the charity The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) Hollybush connect people and green spaces to deliver lasting outcomes for both. We welcome people from all backgrounds, with all levels of experience.

Fancy helping out in a walking group, setting up your own, or just planning a walk with a group of friends?

Come and do a Walk Leader Training session with us and we'll teach you what you need to know so you can lead a group with confidence!

Walk Leader Training 🥾 Friday 9th October 10:00am to 4:00pm
The session will cover various subjects including why we have walking groups, the role and responsibilities of a walk leader, route planning and risk assessment, a demonstration walk, and discussions of various scenarios which may arise.
It gives you the opportunity to discuss various aspects of being a walk leader and ask questions of experienced walk leaders in a supportive environment

If you've grown more apples and pears than you can eat this year please consider donating some to our Apple Day which is happening this Sunday, 4th October from 11am. They'll be used in our 'give it a go' juicing session, games and activities, and we'll also be doing a taste test featuring all the named varieties we can find 🍏

All are welcome to join us on the day, whether you have apples or not, and as well as pressing we'll have lots of family-friendly activities happening on site and the Hollybush Project have been baking us some amazing apple-treats which will be on sale in the cafe.

It was a perfect day for walking yesterday. The Wildlife Walk was at RSPB St Aidan's and we saw 20 different bird species including long tailed t**s, great crested grebe, egrets and a buzzard. Two lucky walkers saw the elusive little owl, and another saw an osprey!
There were lots of asters for the pollinators, and fungi are starting to appear.

Thanks for all the brilliant apple donations we've received so far this week. If you have surplus fruit and would like to drop off apples (or pears) in advance of our Apple Day on Sunday 4th October, then any time between 10am and 4pm Monday-Friday would be great. You can also bring them along on the day!
