Join us for a Taste of Sicily on Tuesday 30th June, 6pm - 8:30pm where we will bring the Sicilian ‘fresh and local’ philosophy to life using the best of seasonal produce.

Sicilian cuisine is a vibrant fusion of Mediterranean flavours rooted in Italian and North African heritage and enriched by a long history of Spanish, Arab and Greek influences creating some delicious dishes.

We have a tasty menu prepared for you to cook and take home. You'll leave with all the recipes and the confidence to make the dishes again and again.

Pasta alla Norma – a classic rich aubergine, tomato and basil sauce served with rigatoni

Zucchine alla Scapece – slices of golden fried courgette marinated in a fresh herby dressing

Paste di mandorla – Sicilian almond cookies, delicious served with whipped ricotta and fresh berries

We’ll also demonstrate and taste pesto alla Trapanese made with the tomatoes and almonds that are local to Sicily.

From April 2025 to March 2026, we saved 3765.94kg of food that would have ended up in landfill. We used the food in our community fridge and to make our community meal.

We would like to know how many carrots you think it would take to match the weight of the food we saved?

Our Chief Executive, Lauren, and Treasurer, Ian had a fantastic evening at the Scottish Charity Awards last night, where Ian was shortlisted for Trustee of the Year alongside three other incredible and dedicated trustees from across Scotland.

Over the past 13 years, Ian has made an enormous contribution to Greener Kirkcaldy. He has played a key role in helping us purchase our community building, strengthening our financial resilience and supporting our growth into the charity we are today. He has volunteered countless hours, providing support, guidance and encouragement to staff, trustees and volunteers alike. Whether it’s offering wise advice, helping solve a problem, or simply bringing a sense of humour to a difficult day, Ian is always there when needed.

Lauren Brook, Chief Executive of Greener Kirkcaldy, said:

“Ian’s support has been invaluable to me since I became Chief Executive three years ago. Knowing that I can always turn to him for honest advice, reassurance and perspective has made a huge difference. He gives his time so generously, cares deeply about our organisation and community, and has played a major role in helping Greener Kirkcaldy become the strong and resilient organisation it is today. We are incredibly lucky to have him”

Huge congratulations to all of this year’s Scottish Charity Awards nominees, and winners. The commitment, passion and leadership shown by all the nominees was truly inspiring.

While Ian may not have taken home the award this time, he’s always a winner in our eyes 💚
