📢It's Falls Prevention Week!

🤔Did you know that as we age, natural changes of muscle strength, sensation, and joint mobility in the feet can affect balance? However, doing some quick and simple strength and balance exercises a few times a week, can help keep you strong and balanced, reducing your risk of falls. Walking Scotland have a great resource on this webpage https://walkingscotland.org.uk/resource/strength-and-balance-exercises/ offering videos showing you how to do the exercises and a printable of the 10 exercises that will help keep you strong and on your feet 🦶

Want to stay active, independent, and enjoy life to the full as you age? Regular walking combined with simple Strength and Balance exercises can help.

🎶 Celebrate 5 years of ! 🎶

Today, we’re celebrating the power of music by sharing 5 songs that are on the soundtrack of our lives. 💛

Music can have a powerful impact on people living with dementia. Favourite songs can help reduce anxiety, lift mood and create opportunities for connection and shared memories.

Last week, our Dunfermline dementia day service groups enjoyed sharing some of their favourite music at our Bite & Blether event. We loved seeing David and Sylvia enjoying themselves on the dance floor, while Pauline and Alan used Playlist prompts to recall music that holds special meaning for them. 🎵💃🕺

🎶 What a joyous afternoon we had at our Bite & Blether at Dunfermline Learning Campus last Friday! 💜

We were delighted to be joined by Pam from Playlist for Life, who chatted with us about the incredible power of meaningful music for people living with dementia.

Pam spent the afternoon finding out which songs and artists meant the most to our group — including Pauline, who once worked upstairs from The Cavern Club in Liverpool, so it’s no surprise that The Beatles hold a very special place in her heart! 🎸🎵

And what better way to celebrate the power of music than by making some together? Pam even joined the amazing Charlie Toner to entertain us, creating a truly special afternoon of music, memories and laughter. ❤️

Thank you, Pam — we absolutely loved having you join us!

We’ll be getting involved with National Playlist Day this Friday, celebrating the music that matters most to us all. 🎶

What a turn out! An incredible result from this year's Big Help Out 🤯

We were proud to support Eden Project Communities this year to help connect more people with meaningful volunteering opportunities through GoVo. Which is just one of the many ways people could connect and find new volunteering opportunities in their community.

We hope everyone who got involved discovered just how rewarding volunteering can be - and that it's inspired you to keep making a difference in your community. 👏

The weekend may be over, but you can still discover new roles and volunteer! Head to govo.org to see how you could lend a hand in your local area.

🥁 Drum roll, please… the results are in!

🎉 15.04 MILLION PEOPLE TOOK PART IN THE BIG LUNCH & BIG HELP OUT THIS YEAR! 🎉

💚 Thank you to everyone who shared food and lent a hand, helping bring communities together across the UK.

🤝 Together, you've sparked new friendships, inspired more volunteering and helped people feel less lonely.

The weekend may be over, but the impact is just beginning. Keep the momentum going by arranging another get-together, signing up to more volunteering, or getting involved in a local event. Even a simple hello to your neighbour helps build stronger, happier and more connected places to live. 👋

🙏 A huge thank you to everyone who took part, and to our incredible organisers, volunteers, and partners, Pears Foundation and Co-op, for making it all possible.

Our volunteers always ensure the best service possible for our clients 💘

Meet Khara-Marie, who's been volunteering with us since last summer in Aberdeenshire. Whilst studying at school and applying to study medicine at university, Khara makes calls to people who have used our local transport services to make sure they continue receiving the support they need.

“Volunteering makes me feel like I’m genuinely helping people. Even though I’m not the person providing the transport itself, I feel like I’m helping people feel understood and helping them get answers to their questions.

"I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon because I’ve found it so rewarding." - well done Khara-Marie! 👏

Sometimes helping others can help you too ❤

Having struggled with anxiety for many years, Hannah believes that volunteering as a Community Companion has helped her build confidence and strengthen her communication skills while supporting people experiencing loneliness in her local community.

“Over time, volunteering has really helped with my anxiety. The more I do, the easier it becomes for me to socialise with people. Meeting someone new doesn’t feel intimidating anymore."

A joy since 1992 ❤

Sheila has been volunteering with us for over 30 years at our Stirling Community Hospital cafe, offering heart-warming service to hospital patients, visitors and NHS staff.

Having battled cancer in her early 40s and now living with limited vision, Sheila has continued to volunteer with remarkable dedication. Her unwavering resilience and commitment to helping others, despite the challenges she’s faced, is truly inspiring.

We’re so grateful for volunteers like Sheila. Thank you so much for your continued service and support ❤
