Pochard numbers in Vane Bay have increased in recent weeks, a sign of the changing season. They are a beautiful duck, the males have a reddish-brown head, a black breast and tail and a pale grey body. For the best views of them here, head to the Gillman Hide 💚

Sightings highlights from last week ✨

Ospreys are still seen every day, and the muddy edges around the Carden Flood are proving to be popular with waders. Duck numbers have also increased in Vane Bay, with good views of them from the Gillman Hide.

If you would like to find out more about this project, we are running drop in sessions at the Carden Hide on Tuesday 15th September 1.30-2.30pm and Monday 21st September 11.30-12.30. We will be carrying out maintenance work on our cafe ramp on this date. This means that the cafe cannot be accessed via the ramp on this day. It also means that there is no step free access to the Leafy Loop trail and Picnic Area.

Ruff appreciation post ✨

We've had some fantastic views of Ruff over the past week or so. These photos were taken from the Carden Hide.

Ruff are usually a migratory species, with young birds visiting the UK in late summer from Scandinavia, before they then migrate on to Africa.
