Walking on Air Gliding for Disabled

Walking on Air Gliding for Disabled Walking on Air is a Scottish charity which teaches people with a disability, especially spinal injuries to fly in our hand controlled ASK21 Glider WA1.

If you are disabled and meet the medical requirements to drive a car you can learn to fly our glider at the Scottish Gliding Centre at Scotlandwell near Kinross. If you don't meet the medical requirements to drive a car, do get it touch, you may still be able to learn to fly. We are the leading charity in the UK which teaches disabled people to fly a glider. See our website or call in on a Friday to learn about us.

Walking on Air is very sorry to announce the death of our recent Chairman Dave Tuttle. He was a very early and active member of Walking on Air. He had many friends in the gliding community and will be missed by all those who knew him.

The 2026 Walking on Air flying season is underway in style! Have you been thinking about gliding but you have not yet signed up? There's no time like the present! You can join at at point in the year, but you get the most flying in if you join in the spring time.

Walking on Air pilot Stephen Kerr reflects on 2025:

"A good memory for me was back in May when my daughter Eva visited the airfield to take her first flight. She was a bit apprehensive but enjoyed the whole experience. She was impressed by the professionalism of all involved, it was good to have my daughter understand why I enjoy gliding"

Nice to see we calmed her nerves over the course of the flight! 😄

The next installment of the 2025 review of the year comes from a Walking on Air pilot:

"I think my favourite memory was doing my first landing. And the other lovely memory was sitting outside the launch caravan with Maria, Stephen and Kate just having a natter."

The social side of gliding is so important, it's not just flying!

As we approach the end of the 2025 flying season, we reflect back on some of our favourite memories. Walking on Air could not do what we do without the dedication and enthusiasm of our volunteer ground handlers and instructors, and today's reflection comes from ground helper Hugh. Thank you Hugh!

Yesterday was another great one for Walking on Air with Clare Johnston achieving her Silver Height Gain - 5127ft from 1183 for a gain of 3944.

Unfortunately, WA1 was unable to go due to its annual, but Scottish Gliding Centre club glider LOV stepped in for the job👍

Kay Inkle and her partner Mal joined us today for Kay to take to the skies on her first experience flight. Kay was absolutely thrilled to enjoy the peace of the skies and to handle the controls.
