Their message is clear: respect belongs on and off the pitch, and the result of a match is never an excuse for abuse. You don’t have to do everything, but you can do something. Whether it is direct, indirect, engaging allies, or referring to others, your actions can help create a safer space. We encourage everyone to take a look at the important bystander guidance shared in these images to help ensure a safe match day for all.

SUPPORTING EACH OTHER IN THE RECOVERY COMMUNITY

The Ark House IN RECOVERY podcast team were on the road yesterday visiting Matthew Butler at ReNew in Hull, home to Believe In People podcast. Matthew and his team have shown such support since we launched our podcast and Ark House are proud to continue to work closely with ReNew Hull which is a vital Alcohol and Drug service in Yorkshire.

We were excited to hear all about the new documentary being made by Believe in People Podcast that is currently in production and explores Ketamine-related harm. "Ket-Hole" will bring real conversations to the places they matter the most.

It was eye opening to hear what Matthew and the team have discovered as they have toured the country speaking candidly and honestly to health professionals and people who have had their own journey with Ketamine.

The film will be out later this summer alongside our chat with Matthew on IN RECOVERY - THE ARK HOUSE PODCAST.

Ark House are proud to work alongside such dedicated and creative people who are determined to raise awareness in our society.

📣 This Volunteers' Week, we want to celebrate Lee.

This year marks an incredible 10 years of volunteering with ReNew. Lee may be a man of few words, but his actions speak volumes. Over the past decade, he has supported people across many areas of the service as a Peer Support Volunteer, from community outreach to helping people prepare for detox and rehab, and supporting them as they transition back into their communities afterwards.

Lee has been a fundamental part of ReNew, facilitating weekly recovery support groups and offering encouragement, understanding and hope to countless people along the way.

Thank you, Lee, for your dedication, compassion and commitment over the last 10 years. ReNew wouldn't be the same without you. 💜

💙🌟 Volunteers' Week: Emily's Story - "Volunteering has given me purpose, structure and hope for the future. It's also opened doors for my own development and helped me see possibilities I never thought were there"

I first came to ReNew as a client, taking things one day at a time and unsure of myself and taking things day by day. Attending groups helped me feel less alone, gave me a sense of belonging, and allowed me to build meaningful connections with people who genuinely understood what I was going through.

When I moved into day rehab, things really started to shift for me. My confidence began to grow, and for the first time in a long while I felt hopeful about the future. I started to discover a real passion for helping others and became curious about how I could give something back. With encouragement and support from the team, I took the step into volunteering as part of my ongoing recovery.

Today, as a Peer Mentor, I use my lived experience to support others who may be facing similar challenges. I've learned that you don't need to have all the answers. Sometimes, simply listening and letting someone know they're not alone can make a real difference.
Being a Peer Mentor with Forward Trust has been one of the most rewarding parts of my recovery journey. The support I've received from the team has helped me build confidence, develop new skills and grow both personally and professionally.

I'm now over 18 months sober, taking recovery one day at a time. That's something I'm incredibly proud of.

My journey has shown me that change is possible, and that recovery can open doors you never imagined, turning difficult experiences into something positive, meaningful and full of purpose.

💜 As we celebrate Volunteers' Week, we'd like to thank all of our volunteers and peer mentors who use their time, compassion and lived experience to support others.

We’re incredibly proud to share that Believe in People has been nominated for a BBC Humberside Make a Difference Award for 2026!

To even be considered for an award like this means a huge amount to us, because this podcast was never created for headlines or attention, but it was created to give people a voice.

What started inside a recovery service in Hull has grown into conversations heard across the UK and beyond, but the heart of it has always stayed the same: honest stories, real people, and reducing the stigma around addiction, trauma, recovery and mental health.

Reading the nomination honestly stopped us in our tracks. The words about people feeling understood, less alone, and more hopeful after listening are exactly why we do this.

Thank you to everybody who has listened, shared an episode, trusted us with their story, supported the podcast, or recommended it to somebody who needed it.

And thank you to whoever nominated us. Truly. This belongs to the community! 💜

☀️Hot weather and alcohol can affect your body more quickly especially in this heat. It can increase dehydration and make it harder for your body to regulate temperature, which can increase the risk of overheating, dizziness and feeling unwell.

If you’re drinking this summer, looking after yourself and the people around you can make a big difference. 💜

Here are a few ways to stay safe:
💧 Drink water regularly and stay hydrated
🧢 Take breaks in the shade and keep cool
🍽️ Eat before and while drinking
⏱️ Pace yourself and know your limits
👥 Check in with friends and look out for each other

Also some medications, including certain antidepressants, can affect how your body regulates heat and may make your skin more sensitive to the sun. This can increase the risk of dehydration, overheating, sunburn and heat rash. If you take antidepressants or other prescribed medication, try to stay hydrated, keep cool and check the patient information leaflet or speak to your pharmacist or GP if you’re unsure. ☀️

Your wellbeing comes first, small steps can help keep you safe this summer. If you need support or just want a chat around alcohol or drugs, we’re here for you:

📣 Last month the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) moved legacy benefits (tax credits, jobseekers allowance etc) over to Universal Credit. As a result, some people living in England who used to receive free prescriptions will now have to pay.

This means some people who are prescribed by our services may need to pay for their prescriptions and may not know it.

If you are picking up a prescription and are unsure if you’re eligible for support, ask the pharmacy staff for help. You can also ask for a FP57 receipt and refund form. This will allow you to claim a refund at a later date if you are entitled.

Find out if you’re eligible for support with healthcare costs via the NHS Low Income Support Scheme:
