Ahead of Refugee Week I attended the Hull Refugee Roundtable, bringing together organisations working with refugees and asylum seekers across the city.

We had valuable discussions around issues including access to legal advice, community cohesion and managing the pressure on housing and other services. It was great to hear directly about the challenges local organisations face in providing support to those fleeing conflict and persecution.

Organised and funded by CIAC, our annual Hull Refugee Week celebration took place last night at The Adelphi Club. A huge thank you to everyone who came along and donated in support of Hull Help for Refugees and Open Doors. Together, you helped raise vital funds for local organisations supporting people seeking sanctuary in our city.

We were treated to fantastic live sets from Hekima, Cecil Jones and Joe Solo, who kept a packed Adelphi crowd thoroughly entertained all night.

The longest continual organisation working with people seeking sanctuary in Hull, Open Doors, has an event to celebrate the courage of refugees on Thursday the 18th of June 2026.

You are invited to come along and show your support for this incredible organisation.

Open Doors is now in its 26th year and has supported so many people over the many years.
