Welcome House

Welcome House Welcome House is a registered charity, set up to help asylum seekers and refugees in Hull & East Riding and in North East Lincolnshire.

Arriving in a foreign country, in a city chosen by the government can be a bewildering experience. Many people, already under stress and suffering isolation, are left without a safety net to support them at this most vulnerable time in their lives. Welcome House will address this gap, a beacon where they can be certain of sympathetic ear and a helping hand. WAYS TO SUPPORT

On Thursday Joanna, Ayo, Zakiya and Sajad visited (CICD) Winestead Hall, Hull College for International Co-operation & Development. We learnt about their Volunteering Programmes in Africa and what the college offers for their students in Winestead.

The college is set in a stunning natural landscape. We were warmly welcomed by the community of staff and students. We were treated to an absolutely delicious lunch and received gifts of home made jams and soaps.

Thank you so much for the amazing time we had. We look forward to visiting again and welcoming you at Welcome House too.

Yesterday we were visited by Simon of Victim Support. Simon explained to us that Victim Support is an independent organisation which is funded by the police, and police refer cases to them but are not involved in their work.

Victims of crime may sometimes be nervous of speaking to the police and the work of Simon and his colleagues is very important. They offer emotional and signposting support to their clients and work with other agencies where appropriate.

Anyone who has been a victim of crime can get in touch with Victim Support whatever their circumstances or immigration status.

Victim Support Hull is in talks with us to offer a regular drop-in session at Welcome House.

Thanks to Simon for his time and expertise.

More photos from our amazing volunteers’ trip to York yesterday with the generosity of Hullitage, York Minster and the Jorvik Viking Centre.

“We went to the York Minster and the Viking Centre yesterday and for some of our volunteers who are Muslims, it was the first time of entering a church and they loved it. We climbed the 275 steps. Going to the Viking Centre, everything was so real - the artefacts. They all loved it and were grateful. It was funded by NICE - National Initiative for Creative Education”.
