Our story

We are a registered charity whose aim is to promote the independence, physical and mental well-being of older, isolated or vulnerable people living in Kingsbridge, Salcombe and the surrounding area. We do so by providing services not normally available through statutory agencies.

Our services are delivered by a team of volunteers, keen to provide friendship and support to those who need it. Our volunteers have the opportunity of using their life skills and experiences, finding fulfilment in making a difference. The benefits of this service can be an improved sense of well-being and reduced feelings of isolation, as well as the preservation of independence for as long as possible, and this can delay or avoid the need to move into a retirement home or become institutionalised.

Examples of support include companionship, shopping or assisting with a shopping trip, local outings, e.g. a trip out for a cup of tea or a visit to a garden centre, accompanied transport to social activities, hospital discharge support and carer relief.

Where Kingsbridge And Saltstone Caring is unable to help, we will always seek to signpost to other organisations that can provide the support required. Kingsbridge And Saltstone Caring works closely with health professionals to ensure clients have access to all the support that is available to them. Part of our volunteers’ remit is to feed back any concerns so that we can seek help where appropriate.
