Pandora Project Helping women & children affected by domestic abuse in North & West Norfolk. Two women die every week at the hands of an abusive partner.

We support women and children suffering domestic abuse, living in West Norfolk, North Norfolk and Swaffham. Emotional abuse can have longer lasting effects than physical abuse and this can have a devastating effect on lives. Most women will minimise the abuse they are suffering, but women should not have to live in fear. We raise awareness and offer training to agencies and other professionals. Please be aware, this is an open forum so anyone can read this! If you need immediate help and support, please call the freephone National Domestic Violence Helpline on 0808 2000 247 or in an emergency call 999. We would like our page to be a safe and friendly place, so we may have to remove posts that are:
offensive
insensitive
compromising someone's safety

We also advise people to check Facebook's terms and conditions.

For millions of children around the world, the place where they are supposed to feel safest can be the place they experience the most fear. According to UNICEF, 1 in 4 children worldwide lives with a mother who has experienced intimate partner violence in the past year.

The heartbreaking short film MONSTERS, created by in collaboration with , tells the story of a little girl who has stopped being afraid of the monsters in her bedroom because the real terror is happening just outside her door. No child should have to grow up afraid in their own home. Every child deserves to feel safe, protected and loved.

is a global organization working to end domestic violence and sexual assault, connecting survivors with resources and support services around the world.

DARVO- Recognised and in the Dictionary! DARVO was coined by psychologist Jennifer Freyd in 1997 to describe this pattern of denying harm, attacking the person speaking out, and reversing the roles of victim and offender.

I’ve talked about it many times in my analysis: DARVO -Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender. You challenge someone about their behaviour, and suddenly you’re defending yourself while they claim to be the person who’s been harmed. All coercive controllers use it - you must expect it and it flags THEM as the abuser. Poor Me Syndrome (Richards 2019) is the bedfellow to DARVO and the onset is acute at the point of accountability 🚩🚩

DARVO’s recent inclusion in Merriam-Webster is significant. Having language for the pattern can help survivors understand what happened-and help others recognise attempts to shift blame and who the real perpetrator is 🚩🚩

Learning about DARVO, and understanding coercive control and other forms of abuse can make people less susceptible to it.

When did you first learn about DARVO? Was there a moment when knowing the term helped something click into place?

Stalking isn't romantic, and it isn't just "over-monitoring" online. It is a pattern of unwanted, repeated behavior that causes fear and distress. Knowing the signs can save lives.

Remember FOUR:
Fixated
Obsessed
Unwanted
Repeated

Always report it to the police.

I’m so sick of hearing all the excuses. Let the consequences of their actions catch up with them. FACT CHECK: 1. They did it to themselves. 2. It was their choice to abuse. 3. No-one made them or ‘drove them’ to do it. 4. Stop excusing and apologizing for abusers. 5. Accountability matters 💣💀

Women & children are at the 💜 of what we do…

Women make up the majority of people accessing high-risk domestic abuse support.

The figures speak for themselves: 95% of people accessing an Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) service and 93% of people going to a Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) are women.

Behind every statistic is a person, a story and a life that deserves to be safe. These figures highlight the importance of accessible, specialist support for those experiencing domestic abuse, and of continuing to raise awareness of the impact it has on women.

At Pandora Project, we believe everyone deserves to live a life free from fear.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic abuse, support is available. You are not alone. Contact us via our website if you need support. Always call 999 in an emergency.
