🎉 We'd like to give a BIG shout-out and thank you to Joanne & Connor!

🏔️ Having been involved and supported by our site at Egremont in West Cumbria, Joanne has decided to take on something BIG in 2026 and raise money for Growing Well. Along with her son, she is taking on the Spanish Three Peaks Trek. A journey to the summits of three of Spain's highest peaks - Veleta (3,394m), Pico de Loma Pelada (3,183m) and Mulhacen (3,482m) over three consecutive days in October.

🫶 She said: "I have benefited massively from the help Growing Well gave me last year. Volunteering with their wonderful team. I saw my mental health and wellbeing improve no end, and I learned lots of new skills in the process, and made some wonderful friends."

This week we’re sharing James’ story.

🌱 James first came to Growing Well at Tebay Services after a difficult period had knocked his confidence. Through routine, outdoor work, practical tasks and a friendly, non-judgemental environment, he began to move forward.

“I think I’d lost confidence that I could do a regular job,” James says. “Growing Well helped prove to me that I could.”

👣 James is now working at Tebay Services Northbound and earlier this year took part in their Miles for Minds Walk, raising awareness and money for Growing Well, because he wanted to give something back.

Sinead is feeling happy! 😊

🌱 She was invited to be a judge at this year's Hawkshead Agricultural Show on behalf of Growing Well. The event took place earlier this week, Tuesday 18th, and thankfully the rain stayed away while she judged the vegetable classes, assisted by one of the stewards, Judith.

🙌 Sinead said: "What an experience! I thoroughly enjoyed myself and would like to say a big thank you to the organisers. There was a wonderful array of vegetables and some of the classes were hotly contested. Everyone made me feel very welcome and seeing all the cakes, flowers and photography as well as all the lovely veg was inspiring. Congratulations to all the winners and to everyone who took part."

🚐 It was great to welcome James to our Open Afternoon at our Tebay Services site last month and for him to see the new minibus for the first time (and grab a photo with it)!

🎬 He featured in our videos when we were raising money for the minibus during the Big Give Christmas Challenge last year. His journey with Growing Well, the experience he shared, and his support were invaluable to our success!

🤗 At the time he said: “The minibus was so important in my journey of recovery. It was the only means for me to get safely to Growing Well. The other volunteers on the minibus made it feel that we are a team and going to do something with purpose.”

🌱 Just over 12 months on from his time with us, he's shared: "We're now in July 2026 so much is different in my life and Growing Well is still very much in my thoughts. My wife often says Growing Well got James back - without Growing Well I feel it would have been a long process."
