Ivybridge Young Farmers Club is a club for young people aged 12-28. We work within the community at many events and partake in many social activities.

Youth organization for people aged 12-26. Focused around raising money for charity and getting young people involved within the local community.

🌟 A MASSIVE WELL DONE! 🌟

Huge congratulations to Alice, Gracie and Lacey-May, who proudly represented Ivybridge YFC in the Group Junior Reading Competition last night! 📚👏

With Skylark’s War by Hilary McKay as their focus, the girls were challenged to read selected extracts, with Alice also taking on the role of introducing and chairing the competition.

The girls really pushed themselves out of their comfort zones, showed fantastic confidence and did themselves proud by achieving 1ST PLACE!🥇🎉

An extra special congratulations to Alice, who has been chosen to represent South Dartmoor in the next round! ⭐

A huge thank you, as always, to our amazing leader Kayleigh for giving up her time and sharing her knowledge and expertise to help train and support the girls. Your dedication is so appreciated! 💚

🐑 Lamb Stockjudging #2 🐑

This Friday, 10 of our members headed out to Cornwood for a lamb stockjudging session at Molly Northmore’s. It was a brilliant opportunity to build on our experience, develop our skills and learn together! 🙌

It was especially great to see some of our members having a go at stockjudging for the very first time! 👏

Well done to everyone who took part, and a big thank you to Molly for having us! 🐑😊

🐑 Lamb Stockjudging🐑

Last Friday, we kicked off our new YFC year with a fantastic lamb stockjudging evening, kindly hosted by Mr and Mrs Wilcocks!

It was a brilliant opportunity to develop our skills, build on our experience and learn together. It was also great to see so many people there! 🙌

A huge thank you to Judith Lapthorne for generously giving up her time to train us, and to Mr and Mrs Wilcocks for hosting us.

We’re looking forward to our next stockjudging practice! 🐑👏

🌟 South Dartmoor Junior Scholarship 🌟

One of our members, Ollie was lucky enough to be awarded the South Dartmoor Junior Scholarship, giving him the opportunity to travel to Slovenia and Italy. The scholarship offered a fantastic experience to explore both countries, learn more about agriculture and rural life, and experience the diverse cultures, landscapes and traditions along the way.

The adventure began with a flight from Bristol to Venice, where the group spent the afternoon exploring the city before travelling onwards to Ljubljana, Slovenia, the following day. On arrival in Ljubljana, the group met Tadej, the RYE Slovenia leader, and enjoyed discovering the city, taking part in activities at an adrenaline park and swimming in a local lake.

The group then had the opportunity to learn more about Slovenian agriculture, with visits to the Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry, a farm institute and a dairy farm.

They continued their journey to the Maribor region, where they explored the surrounding countryside and visited a vineyard, orchard, agricultural fields and a farm cooperative.
The group then travelled to the stunning Lake Bled area, where they enjoyed scenic walks, a picnic and another refreshing swim in the lake before heading back to Ljubljana.

The final part of the trip involved travelling back towards Venice, where the group enjoyed a traditional Italian meal together before flying home to Bristol the following morning. Overall, the scholarship was a memorable and valuable experience, giving Ollie the chance to explore two countries while gaining a greater insight into agriculture, rural communities and different cultures.

🎉 Congratulations are in order! 🎉

A huge well done to Ollie, Jacob and George on successfully completing their 2-day Lantra Chainsaw Maintenance & Cross Cutting Course!🌲🪚

All three passed with flying colours and gained some fantastic new skills and knowledge along the way. 👏

A big thank you to Oakleaf Training for delivering the course, and to Dartington Cattle Breeders Society for providing the funding and supporting their training.

On Friday 10th July, a group of our members enjoyed a fantastic guided tour of Hunt's C***r.

The tour gave us a fascinating insight into the c***r-making process, from how the apples are turned into c***r to how it is bottled on-site. We rounded off the visit with a c***r tasting and a delicious pasty, making for a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

A huge thank you to Roger Hunt for leading such an informative tour, to Christine Hunt, and to the entire Hunts C***r team for their warm welcome and hospitality. We really appreciate the time you took to share your knowledge with us! 🍎🍺🥟

Two of our members, Chloe-Leigh Hammond and Charlotte Horton, had the honour of representing Devon at the National Stock Judging Finals at The Great Yorkshire Show.

Qualifying for this prestigious event through their outstanding results at the Devon County Show was a fantastic achievement in itself.

Competing against members from counties across England and Wales, both girls judged exceptionally strong classes. Charlotte judged six Dairy Shorthorns and six Holsteins, placing the Dairy Shorthorns, delivering a speech, and placing the Holstein class. Chloe competed in the linear assessment before delivering a speech on a class of six Ayrshires.

Despite the incredibly high standard of competition, both girls remained focused, gave it their all, and represented our club with pride. Charlotte came 3rd in her section and Chloe 24th in hers. Alongside the judging, they made new friends, gained invaluable experience, and created memories that will last a lifetime.

A huge thank you to Devon Young Farmers for providing such an incredible opportunity. We are so proud of both Chloe and Charlotte for their hard work, dedication, and fantastic representation of our club. 👏🐄💚
