Snake night at the Ivybridge Police Cadet Unit!! 🐍🐍🐍

One of our leaders brought in some of his many snakes to show us how to hold them properly. As well as sharing some interesting facts on what their activities are when they’re at home!
Our cadets got to hold them, have them slithering away around their necks and around their arms.

Unlike the previous times our leader brought in his snakes, we had a lot more baby snakes to hold.

Some of our Cadets who are scared of snakes, pushed down their fears and held or stroked snakes. Making them laugh at the unique textures of their scales.

Some might even say they were…. Hisssterical 🐍

Bad joke..

Overall, our cadets had a great time and took some brilliant photos of themselves and others holding the snakes 🐍

Sorry for the delayed post.

Last week on Saturday, Our Head Cadet, Bethany, competed for the High Sheriff Cadet of Devon position. After competing for 6 hours against 12 others her and a cadet from Newton Abbot were chosen. This is the 4th year in a row that Ivybridge has been awarded the position and the 3rd time in a row they have the pleasure of working with Newton Abbot. Being the High Sheriff Cadet involves assisting the High Sherif at important events and being a public presence to promote police cadets.
This position lasts for a year so she has a very full on year ahead.

If you’re interested in becoming a cadet send me a direct message or follow the instructions on this page.

Bit of a delayed post.
Thursday we had a PowerPoint presented by our head cadet who ran through her presentation that she’s doing at her High Sheriff competition on Saturday. This was then followed by phonetic alphabet use and how to speak over radios correctly. This entailed making up someone’s licence plate and name following the cards (in the picture). We then took turns running through the card ending the session with some extended phonetic practice.

Today our cadets were shown a presentation by one of our leaders on communication skills over the radios and how the phonetic alphabet can help emphasise the words you say over a radio. Tonight’s practical included the radios. Cadets partnered up 2 radios between a group. Group one would go out with one radio and choose a car, they would then talk through the radio to the second group who was waiting indoors with another radio and tell them the license plate of the car and the description of the car. The second group would then go out and try and find the car based off what information they were given by the first group and then they swapped. as well as doing the presentation and practical tonight we also had drill practice, this was led by one of our section leaders. we try to do drill practice every session, to give the newer cadets the best chance of picking up how to do it before event or parade season begins, it’s also extremely beneficial for older cadets to keep up with practice as well.

First session back of the year! 🥳🥳

Exciting times for the newer cadets as we had a police officer showing one of the neighbourhood police cars. He very kindly demonstrated the blue lights and sirens as well as showed us everything that is inside to be used when they’re out on patrol. Some of our cadets got to press the buttons to turn on the lights and then got to take turns sitting in the car.

This shows that Ivybridge police cadets is back for a new exciting year!

🏥 CPR Training

Tonight cadets undertook vital CPR and defibrillator training in order to drill the essential skills to deal with emergency situations - both inside and outside of cadet duties.

Training like this helps cadets build confidence, build skills and provides exposure to activities encountered in day-to-day policing.

Do you know someone that is interested in joining us as a Cadet or Cadet Leader? Head over to vpc.police.uk for the full details.

Hello Ivybridge 👋

Cadets will be attending the Ivybridge Town Council Christmas Fair tomorrow and will be based out of The Bridge with activities for children (and their adults too of course as who wouldn’t want one of our Police Dog stickers!)

We will also be on-foot around the event on hand to deal with missing children and general marshalling so please feel free to come over and talk to us.

🚨Remember, in an emergency, always call 999 and ask for Police, Fire or Ambulance.

We look forward to joining in with the festivities tomorrow 🎄🎄

A big thank you to our Ivybridge Volunteer Police Cadets who will be in The Bridge with some activities for the children as well as generally supporting the event around the town.
