Wow, what a way to end the year!!
Five new Bronze Beavers in our last session. 🥉🥉🥉🥉🥉

(In addition to the other 2 Bronze Beavers this year who had opportunity to do a camp elsewhere.)

The highest Award a Beaver can earn, 52 activities designed to develop a well balanced Scout who can
⚜️be Adventurous
⚜️have Outdoors skills and knowledge
⚜️learn new Skills
⚜️work in a Team
⚜️set themselves personal Challenges
⚜️understand their place in the World

By finally getting a camp we were able to complete our ⚜️ Outdoors Awards ⚜️ and so finish the set.

So, so proud of this cohort, they have cheered each other on, tried so many new things and stuck with the goal despite losing our venue and the sometimes seemingly impossible prospect of a camp.

Very very well earned success. 👏

Finishing off our International badge learning about flags and airline logos...
...and for one Beaver, finishing off a long awaited ⚜️Skills Award ⚜️ by teaching a game.

My biggest lesson learned on camp?
Next time remember to stop and take a moment to get decent photos of the team who make it happen! 📷🤦‍♀️ Preferably together.

But that's the point really. We had such a strong and selfless team on camp that whenever you look round they are in action.

Thank you Ewa, Marcin, Dianne and Elliot for giving it your all, spotting every Beaver having a wobble, every 'spinning plate' about to drop, for your hours of thankless work and unfailingly positive attitude. I hope it feels worth it when you see how much the Beavers got from camp.

I should mention that Elliot isn't even from the 24th, but came to our aid when he heard we needed a permit holder and a venue. He volunteered the 86th as a venue and was exceptionally helpful. Giving up his Saturday night for us. They might not be 'his' Beavers, but as far as the Beavers are concerned he is 'their' Elliot.
24 plus 86 = 110. And Elliot gave 110%. 😁

Huge thanks also to Ash Hyde, Andy Morgan and Janette Daley for the process of getting our volunteers officially registered.

And especial thanks to Huw Daley for the help and guidance through the permit process, and for the following magic moment.

Huw arrives to carry out the assessment just as I'm in the throes of dealing with a Cub who took his shoes off and promptly stood on a bee. 🐝 One of the Beavers used his initiative and ran unprompted to fetch a first aid kit as a response to any incident.
Huw's classic response to this mild mayhem?
' I see you have a first Aid kit, good.' ✔️
( we also had an ice pack and a horde of eager Beavers fanning the patient with roll mats.😁)

Reaping what you sow. So many small examples of hard work and commitment adding up into bigger achievements to celebrate with our Awards treasure chest.

Always lovely to see their excitement at seeing which Awards their names are already burned onto.😃😊🤗

We had
🔹️6 Beavers who had been waiting to go on camp to finally finish the last step of their ⚜️Outdoors Award ⚜️ 🌳

🔹️ 1 Beaver who was able to complete his ⚜️World Award ⚜️ 🌍 on Friday with the help of the 41st Coventry letting him join their trip to meet firefighters. Thank you so much.

🔹️2 Beavers who completed their ⚜️Personal Challenge Award ⚜️ this week, one by learning to sew on badges 🪡🔵
one by reading a Bear Grylls survival book and telling the colony about it. 📖

We always have souvenirs of an Award, for everyone, not just those who have completed.

This time we had bird window stickers 🐦 to remember the animal knowledge we picked up on OutdoorsAward, water pistols 🔫 & glitter straws 🧃to remember how hot camp had been and glow sticks to remember their colourful first night under canvas. 🚦🌈 ⛺️

Wind down to sundown. 🌅

Our clove hitch dance🕺, an Italian version of 'Captain's Coming' with Italian words and actions, LOTS of glowsticks for the tents, and an Italian bedtime story : Strega Nona.👵

Normally at the 24th we try to invest people next to a fire, lit by their friends.
However that would have not been safe in this hot, dry weather 🚒 🧯🥵

As an alternative the Beavers arranged to make a tunnel of water pistols for our newest member to walk through after making his promise.

Unbeknownst to us, one of our assistant leaders had a trick up his sleeve. 🫣

A hot camp is just as much of a challenge as a snow camp.

The Beavers were super sensible about keeping their drinks bottles topped up and used, and....
. we were able to play water games!
Such as 'Naughty Elephants Sq**rt Water', where a blindfolded Beaver shoots water pistols at a target using only the points of the compass shouted to them by their teammates. 🧭 🔫 💦

Then a game known as 'everyone runs around like a mad thing and thoroughly soaks each other.' It's very popular. 😁

There were rules about consent, not squirting anyone who gave 'thumbs down 👎signs. There were a few mistakes but generally the Beavers showed a good amount of self control and respect for each other.

We also brought enough ice pops for multiple ice pop breaks, and ice lolly moulds. 🧊🍭❄️
Sadly the freezer wasn't the best but we will hand out the results on Thursday.

Feed the yeast! Making our own pizzas.

Following the steps of the recipe, being patient waiting for the dough to rise ( massively.)

We also sampled tortellini and gnocchi, so covered the 'try different kinds of food from another county' part of the international badge.

13/07/2025

As part of our International badge we played a ball game where you say hello 👋 and goodbye 👋 to the ball...in its language.

We had a German🇩🇪⚽️, Spanish 🇪🇸⚽️, French🇫🇷 ⚽️and Italian 🇮🇹 ⚽️ ball, so there was plenty to remember.
