Good times, what we do works!! On 5th December, 2019, Anna Kiusya, graduated with a Diploma in Clinical Medicine, at Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), Nairobi-Kenya. She has been under BASIK sponsorship for the last six years, when she was in Form 2, in Kasaala Secondary School.

Six years ago Anna couldn't afford to go to school, now she's graduated! When we take on sponsorship of a child we commit to support them throughout their education. If you're feeling generous going into the New Year please consider supporting us through a regular gift!

Massive thanks to the four riders that took on the 136 miles and serious hills on C2C route at the weekend. They raised over £2,000 to go towards building a dorm and sponsoring children's education! Cheers all!

The lab is officially open!!! A huge day for James Ndonyi Memorial Secondary School! Massive thanks to everyone that helped to make this happen especially to all the students, teachers and parents at Harrogate Grammar School. We're now raising money for our next build and will be having a street collection in Ilkley on Saturday for our annual Flag Day! Hopefully see you there!

The lab is complete!!! The Science Lab at James Ndonyi Memorial Secondary School in Kenya is ready for a grand opening in May! Good, good times! Massive thanks to Harrogate Grammar School who raised the money to make this happen. The science lab is now fully operational with gas, water piping and chemical storage cabinets as well teaching tables, sinks and concrete tables installed.

BASIK Bike Ride is back! If anyone fancies the challenge let us know! We're taking on the Sea to Sea from Cumbria to Tynemouth, 136 miles, 2 days, 10/11th August. It will be a team of far from pro cyclists and we're nearly all starting from scratch with training!

The building of a lab started back in early 2018, now it's almost there! Gas pipes are going in next, then it'll get a paint! Thanks to Harrogate Grammar School and everyone who has donated in the last year to help make this happen! Grab a lab coat kids, science is coming to James Ndonyi Memorial Secondary School!

Superb evening with the Roundhay WI, thanks for all your support and kind words!

At tonight's meeting Chris Normington told us how his family visited Kenya to go on a safari holiday and came across a school which was struggling to provide what the children needed. They formed the charity BASIK (Build A School In Kenya) and have recently celebrated their 10th birthday. They work with and buy from the local economy to provide water, basic sanitation, meals and sanitary goods for the girls so they can attend school in addition to the actual buildings. We were all very interested and decided we would like to help. We raised £130 from a collection and will try to do more in future. It's good to know where the money is going when corruption is rife in Kenya and that none is used for bribery or unnecessary expense.
