Guardians of the Forest

As our Year 5s are now at the top end of the school, we’re encouraging them to take more responsibility for our Forest School area and really make it their own.

This session was all about looking after our space, helping to maintain the woodland and beginning to create their own areas within it. The children are learning that Forest School isn’t just about what we can do in the woods, but also about how we care for them.

We also introduced the safe use of secateurs and folding saws, developing their confidence and independence with tools while learning the importance of using them responsibly.

It’s lovely to see them taking ownership of our outdoor space, working together and starting to leave their own mark on our woodland.

Building skills, growing independence and caring for our forest.

After 16 years, we say a fond farewell to our wonderful crossing lady, Julie! Whatever the weather, Julie has been there to keep our children safe and has been a vital part of our school community.

We teach our children about the 5 Ways to Wellbeing, including giving time to others — and Julie has certainly done that and more!

The children celebrated Julie with a special song and some lovely gifts (including a Bops Bear, of course!).
Thank you, Julie, for everything you have done over the last 16 years. You will be greatly missed!

Class assemblies are an opportunity to celebrate learning in action! From sharing our learning and revisiting those memorable moments to bringing it all to life through performance… and of course, a rap always helps!

But belonging isn’t just for the children. It’s about families feeling part of the journey too. When parents and carers come along to watch class assemblies, they get to see the learning, confidence, creativity and collaboration that happen every day in the classroom.

These moments create connections between home and school, strengthen our sense of community and remind us that learning is something we share together.

Well done,4I!

Some unbelivably accurate self-portraits from Y2!

For many children, their talents shine brightest when they have a paintbrush in their hand, a blank page in front of them or the freedom to create something uniquely their own.

Learning in art is about so much more than the finished piece. It’s about looking closely, making choices, experimenting with techniques, developing fine motor skills, solving problems and having the confidence to express yourself.

Achievement comes in so many different forms. It isn’t measured by English and maths alone. Creativity unlocks imagination, builds confidence, nurtures individuality and gives children different ways to communicate their ideas, demonstrate their understanding and experience success.

Class Assemblies

We know children remember learning best when they are actively involved and have meaningful, hands-on experiences.

Class assemblies bring learning to life while developing oracy, presentation and communication skills and bringing our whole school community together in a celebration of learning.

Well done, Y4!

We couldn’t not share this one… A rainbow over our school yesterday. A simple moment, but one full of wonder, curiosity and conversation.

Sometimes, the most meaningful moments are the ones we don’t plan!

Philosophy for Children in Reception: Small voices, big ideas.

Even our youngest children have important questions, thoughtful ideas and valuable perspectives to share.

Through P4C, children learn to question, reason, listen, disagree respectfully and consider different viewpoints. They explore big ideas around fairness, friendship, kindness and belonging.

P4C:
Gives children a voice.
Develops empathy and respect.
Nurtures critical thinking and curiosity.
Lays the foundations for active, thoughtful citizens.

Because children are not just citizens of the future; they are citizens of today.

Our children are learning that their voices and ideas matter and that they deserve to be heard.

Our running club is about so much more than running.

It’s about improving fitness, supporting our mental wellbeing, enjoying the great outdoors, socialising with friends, building confidence and challenging ourselves to go that little bit further.

Whether it’s pushing through when things get tough, encouraging a friend or simply enjoying being active together, every run is an achievement.

So proud of everyone who gets involved, puts in the effort and supports each other along the way.

Note: this is only half of the club!!! It is a firm favourite for children AND staff!

We were delighted to welcome Liz Flanagan, author of the wonderful Wildsmith series, into school!

All of Key Stage 2 have been immersed in her first book, Wildsmith: Into the Dark Forest, so it was incredibly special to meet the author behind the story. Our Year 5 and 6 pupils took part in a creative writing workshop, and Liz spent lunchtime signing books for our excited readers. We’ve also added copies of the series to our school library for even more children to discover and enjoy!

At our school, we are passionate about raising the profile of reading and nurturing a genuine LOVE of books. Reading is about so much more than decoding words on a page. It builds vocabulary, develops imagination, strengthens writing skills, sparks curiosity and opens doors to new worlds, ideas and possibilities.
Most importantly, when children fall in love with reading, they discover the joy of getting lost in a story, the excitement of exploring somewhere new and the inspiration to create stories of their own.

Visits like this bring books to life and remind our children that behind every story is an author with a wonderful imagination and a world of ideas to share. Who knows where that inspiration might lead?

A huge thank you to Liz Flanagan for sharing her time, talent and passion for storytelling with us. What a wonderful way to celebrate the power of reading!

A huge well done to the year 4s and 5s who ran at Cliffe Castle today. That was one tricky course!
