This week we ventured a bit out of our area down Norwood Road. Last year some local people said that the path was so overgrown that they were having to step off the path into the road. This year the cut back was not as bad.
A few people thanked us. One offered refreshments but suggested the landowner or Kirklees should be doing the work. The answer is yes but sometimes it's just better to get on with stuff in the short-term.

Update on the Japanese Knotweed up Reap Hirst Road and the new growth spotted at the gate by Anna Lis

The contractor is out finishing early season sprays at present.
He has been delayed due to the poor weather we have experienced. Obviously, you can only apply herbicide in decent weather.

The latest location you have identified has been added to the Reap Hirst description on the treatment spreadsheet.

Japanese Knotweed can at times flourish from the application of herbicide as it notes it is being ‘threatened.’
Growth on JK is like that of any other plant. So if it is warm and wet it will put on more growth due to those ideal growing conditions.

As a group we have no political allegiances but we do try to be supportive of community activities.
Today that included joining a large group put together by our new local councillors from Kirklees Green Party on a litterpick.
We started down in Birkby but then headed up Grimescar Road picking the litter by the side of the road. Despite the traffic 5 bags were filled.

This week you may see two guys surveying the stream. It's part of checking the flood plain leading to Middlemost Pond. It's the pond which is the issue they are really looking at.
Don't think we'll ever see canoes on there again but hopefully they will improve that and the surrounding area. Friends of Norman Park
