A double win for the Crusaders this evening.

The firsts welcomes Scholes at home and having suffered defeat to them already this season the Crusaders put on a great team performance to come away with a strong win.

Holly leading the runs, scoring 37 off 16 balls 🤩 including four 4s and five 6s!!! Amazing effort.

8 wickets taken as a team but a great performance from Catherine with 2 caught and bowled and a third wicket 👏🏼 A great performance from Rachel behind the stumps.

The 2nds travelled to Liversedge and also came away with a good win and great team performance.

Clare leading the runs with 17 followed closely by Emmy who continues to impress with her transition in to the ladies team.

Wickets coming from Sarah Jane, Claire and Jo. 👏🏼 Mel with a strong performance behind the stumps.

Really well played ladies. The Hardball league is next as the Crusaders travel away to Calderdale United.

I was privileged to have been asked to talk about Women and Girls cricket for the latest edition of the Huddersfield Cricket League Podcast ‘Castle Hill Cricket Chat’ with the fantastic Sara Begg (who has inspired many of us to get involved).

We chatted to Andrew Crawshaw about the opportunities for women and girls and how great it is to see so many clubs now setting up teams. The growth over the last 4 years has been huge and is still growing!

A double winning Tuesday in the sunshine!

The 1sts were at home but only had 7 available making it a challenge in the field.

We started with the bat and each pair getting the runs setting a target of 309. It was always going to be hard to cover the field with only 7 but the Crusaders dug deep and did well bowling to help keep the Mirfield score down. Wickets coming from Emily, Bobbie and Catherine as well as 2 good run outs.

The 2nds were only up the road at Skelmanthorpe and put in one of the team’s best performance according to the Captain Clare. A great effort with the bat, Mel getting the squad off to a strong start scoring 21 off 16 (including four 4s and one 6 👏🏼)

Then in the field wickets coming from Clare, Cathy and a caught and bowled from our newest Crusader Emmy (making her first full game appearance in a move up from the girls) along with a run outs.

Strong performances all around. Well done ladies! 👏🏼

A fun evening of cricket for the Comets as they took part in the Broad Oak festival.

The girls won 2 out of their 3 games 👏🏼

There was some great bowling all round, with one of the girls picking up her first wicket.

The girls played some great shots and we had some lovely 6s and 4s to celebrate.

A great team performance and the girls are always encouraging and supporting each other. They have come on so much since their first tournament at the start of the season. The improvements are clear for all to see and it’s nice to hear our supporters notice the hard work the girls are putting in, in training.

Well done girls 👏🏼

Massive well done to Emmy, who took to the field in the ladies team for the first time. Another mum and daughter duo in the squad. They opened up the batting, scoring 29 as a pair. Emmy contributing nicely and finding the boundary.

Didn’t get to bowl or field this time but that will come.

Giving the girls a pathway to ladies is important to us so that they always have a team to play and develop in.

Well done Emmy 👏🏼

2 abandoned games this evening unfortunately for the Crusaders

At home the 1sts almost completed their game with only 8 overs to go. A good effort in the field and a promising start with the bat.

The 2nds were at Shepley where only 8 overs were able to be played before calling it off. Have to give a special mention to the first batting pair of Mel and her daughter Emmy who was making her debut for the ladies team. She achieved 8 off 7 balls including one boundary 👏🏼 well done Emmy!

A slight break now as no games for 2 weeks.

Another nail biter of an end to a game yesterday evening as the Comets travelled to Almondbury Wes. The results depended on the last ball 😬😬

A great game from start to finish against a very strong Almondbury Wes team. We faced some fast bowling and lost a few wickets to begin with, but found our confidence and managed to start picking up some boundaries and really kept pushing the singles to keep adding to the score.

We set a target of 267.

We bowled well from the start and you can really see all the hard work in training really paying off (the girls are getting more power in their bowls as well as pitching the ball higher up the wicket).

We’d only managed to take 1 wicket before the last batting pair came in. The last 2 bowlers needed to bowl their best and they did. Taking a further 2 wickets, including on the last ball which secured the win.

A really well played game from both teams and a great game to watch 👏🏼

A loss this morning for the Crusaders, losing to Mirfield.

Kirkburton finishing on 295 - Mirfield achieved 332

We bowled well but couldn’t get many wickets, the only one came from Emma taking a great catch off of Emily’s bowling. A couple of big hitters in the Mirfield squad set us a high target to chase.

With the bat we just couldn’t get close to the target, we lost a few too many wickets. Emily getting the most runs at 21 followed closely by Bobbie on 18.

No time to dwell as the next games come on Tuesday where both Crusaders squads are in action home and away. 🏏

A loss this evening for the Crusaders but it was a close match against the Shepley ladies and girls.

It’s only the 3rd hard ball game of the season, so we haven’t got much practice in, so to push a strong Shepley side so close is an achievement in itself.

Last time they beat us by 35 runs but this time only 11. We batted well against their strong bowlers.

Sarah getting the top runs this time with 15 off 13.

The wickets came from Charlie, Jo and Isabelle, along with a run out and 3 of these much needed wickets occurring in the last 2 overs.

So although it’s a loss this evening, there really are plenty of positives to take away in to our next hardball game.

A busy evening for the Comets and Crusaders, playing in the heat!

The Comets visited Kirkheaton and came away with a good win. As with the last few games, the girls are growing in confidence and the hard work they put in in training is showing during games. Some great bowling and fielding last night from the girls and some great contributions with the bat.

The Crusaders were at home to Cumberworth. Another close game that went down to the last over and could have easily gone either way, but last night the result wasn’t in our favour. Claire H leading the way with the runs and our only wicket coming from Cathy.

The busy week continues with a hardball, 3 softball and an U13 girls all within the next 7 days!
