The UTS Foundation

The UTS Foundation The UTS Foundation exists to help educate, inspire and change the lives of the most vulnerable members of our community.

UTS is excited and proud to announce the launch of its own charitable arm – The UTS Foundation to achieve its goal of changing the lives of the most vulnerable people in our community. The new foundation will be run by the UTS team of directors, including Dr Colin Robertson, who is the Head of the Athletic Development Centre and Research Co-ordinator for the School of Sport and Biomedical Sciences

at the University of Bolton; Neil Parsley, strength and conditioning coach for the GB Olympic Taekwondo squad and former Great Britain Rugby Union strength and conditioning coach and David McDermott, UTS Foundation Director and Sport Scholarship Manager at Liverpool John Moores University, who coordinates education and sport science support for Olympic and professional athletes and students. The Foundation’s five year vision and the purpose of the project is to provide accessible and free structured coaching, health and well-being sessions to vulnerable community groups across the Wirral and at our facility sites. The UTS Foundation will work in partnership with a range of agencies, such as the NHS, police, youth service, youth offending teams, schools, colleges and youth clubs to help and support these people. UTS also has excellent links with partner agencies and local clubs, which will allow the Foundation to signpost individuals to sports, activities, clubs and professional groups who can work with the Foundation to help these people to reach their goals and full potential. All funds raised will be going towards the build of the new UTS Foundation which is to develop a rehabilitation and youth development centre next door to the existing UTS Hoylake facility. In addition, UTS will be seeking to transform the fields in Carr Lane, Hoylake (see our exciting images) into a fantastic all-in-one community sports and health hub, providing a range of sports and activities which are accessible to all, including

Post cancer care patients; including structured support to help with recovery Prescribed exercise for people with mental health issues, nutrition advice and support
Older people with health issues or who are isolated and would benefit from fun, friendly sessions
Local sports clubs who need access to top quality facilities to help them grow
Disadvantaged and disaffected young people and adults who would benefit from free structured sessions

"After my cancer diagnosis, UTS Foundation was recommended to me because of the excellent support it offers people facing serious illnesses.

That’s when I met Danielle. She had been through what I was going through, and from the moment we spoke she put me at ease with her openness, energy, and genuine care.

She taught me how to use the equipment, encouraged me to push myself, and helped my confidence grow in ways I never expected.

With her support, my fitness improved dramatically, and when she suggested I try a class, that was me hooked and I’ve never looked back.

I’ve gone from someone who never liked gyms to UTS becoming my second home!!

For me, it has helped my recovery both physically and mentally, and I absolutely love it!!"

Your body is built to move. Even when it feels like it can't.

After surgery, after treatment, after everything your body has been through. Movement might be the last thing on your mind. But it might also be the most important.

Here's why...

-Cancer treatments are brutal. Surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy - they save lives, but they take a toll. Muscle wastes. Joints stiffen. Fatigue sets in and stays. Your body adapts to doing less. And the less you do, the harder everything becomes.

-Movement reverses that cycle. Not hard exercise. Not pushing through pain. The right movement, at the right time, prescribed by someone who understands what your body has been through.

- It reduces inflammation.
Studies show that regular, moderate exercise lowers the inflammatory markers that cancer treatment leaves behind.

- It fights fatigue.
It sounds counterintuitive, but movement creates energy. It improves cardiovascular function, oxygen delivery and mitochondrial efficiency. Your body literally gets better at fuelling itself.

- It rebuilds what treatment takes.
Muscle mass. Bone density. Range of motion. Balance. The things that make everyday life feel possible again.

- It boosts your immune system.
Exercise increases the circulation of natural killer cells and other immune markers that help your body protect and repair itself.

- It changes your brain chemistry.
Movement triggers the release of endorphins, serotonin and dopamine. The things that lift mood, reduce anxiety and help you sleep.

This isn't opinion. It's evidence. And it's exactly why our classes exist.
Prescribed. Safe. Coached by specialists who understand the science and the person.

💪 Our Fit4Life classes run every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10:30am at the UTS gym in Hoylake.
Your body has been through a lot. Let's remind it what it can do. 💛

Our classes have an amazing team leading them.

"Danielle is a huge motivator and Emilio is an excellent coach."

What makes UTS Foundation different?

It's not just a class. It's not just a workout. It's a wholesale change for the better. For your body. For your mind. For the part of you that just needs to know you're not in this alone.

Physically, the benefits are real.
Prescribed exercise - the right kind, at the right intensity - rebuilds strength, fights fatigue, improves mobility and supports recovery. Your body starts to feel like yours again.

Mentally, something shifts.
Movement gives your mind something positive to focus on - and every small win reminds you that you're still capable of more than you think.

Socially, everything changes.
You're in a room with people who understand. People who've had the same fears, the same doubts, the same dark days.

And somehow, between the exercises and the laughs and the cups of tea afterwards, something powerful happens.

💪 Out Fit4Life classes run every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10:30am at the UTS gym in Hoylake.

We've got you. 💛

If you've ever been in one of Emilio's classes, you know.

You know the energy. You know the encouragement. You know the belief.

And it works. You walk in tired. You walk out taller.

"Danielle & Emilio really make the Fit4Life classes fun. It's what makes me turn up each week. I really miss it/them, when I don't attend."

That's the thing about our classes. You come for the exercise. You stay for the people.

And somewhere along the way, you realise you're not just getting fitter - you're actually enjoying it.

💪 Our fit for Life classes run every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10:30am at the UTS Gym in Hoylake. Come and see what the fuss is about.

Most of our class members hadn't exercised in years. Some had never set foot in a gym. Some were mid-treatment and didn't know if their body could handle it.

Some just didn't want to walk into a room full of strangers.

They came anyway.

And something shifted. Not overnight. Not dramatically. But slowly, quietly, something changed.

A little more energy. A little more confidence. Not because the exercises are magic. But because the environment is safe and our coaches understand.

"The joy of achieving beyond my physical comfort zone and feeling stronger and fitter after my medical procedures have made such a positive difference."

It all starts with one session. One step. One decision to try.

You don't have to be 100% ready. You just have to be willing. We'll take it from there. 💛

Get in touch with us through our website www.utsfoundation.com

We'll have a chat, learn a little about where you are, and find the right starting point for you.

What do we expect from you?
Honestly? Not much. Show up. That's the hardest part - and the most important.

You don't need to be fit. You don't need experience. You don't need to know what you're doing. That's our job.

Some days you'll smash it. Some days you'll just get through it. Both count. Both matter.

There's no judgement here. No pressure. No expectation to be anything other than yourself.
Just a team that's got your back and a community that understands.
