We welcome the Prime Minister's commitment to offer all rough sleepers housing over Christmas. WI members are calling for action to support homeless women through our new campaign, launching soon.

Vulnerable women are often invisible in official figures because they rarely sleep rough. Many spend nights walking, sofa surfing, or remaining with abusive partners rather than sleeping on the streets. The first step must be to count everyone experiencing homelessness.

We are encouraging WI members to write to their local council and urge them to participate in the Rough Sleeping Women's Census. Find out more about the census at Women’s Rough Sleeping Census - Solace Womens Aid and you can contact the Public Affairs team for a letter you can send to your local council.

On 16th September 1915, the first WI meeting was held in Britain. Over a century later, the spirit of coming together to learn, share and grow is still at the heart of everything we do.

VIA continues that legacy, welcoming anyone who wants to learn with us. This WI Day, we've brought together a collection of courses celebrating women's lives and achievements across art, science, history and society.

Courses to celebrate with 🎉
All courses are running throughout the week from 14th-18th September. Can't make it live? Book on to get the recording and watch when it suits you.

Celebrate WI Day with online courses exploring women’s lives and achievements across art, science, history and society.

It's almost the WI Week of River Action!

Between 7 and 13 September, we’ll hold our fourth annual Week of River Action, and it will be the most important yet.
Now is the time to start thinking creatively about your plans! How can you make as much noise as possible, bringing other like-minded people in your community with you, to put pressure on your politicians?

Check out our toolkit on MyWI to learn how you can participate this year: https://mywi.thewi.org.uk/public-affairs-and-campaigns/current-campaigns/clean-rivers-for-people-and-wildlife/wi-week-of-river-action-toolkit

🧩 Time to switch off and unwind...

There's something wonderfully satisfying about settling down with a jigsaw and watching the picture come together, one piece at a time.
Whether you're drawn to The Great Feminist Art Party, celebrating pioneering women artists, or The World of Jane Austen, filled with familiar characters and literary charm, both offer the perfect excuse to slow the pace and enjoy a mindful moment.

Which one would you reach for first?

Explore both jigsaws at the WI Shop and receive a FREE* reusable canvas shopping tote for plastic free July! ✨ 🌍

*Tote added automatically to baskets over £40.

Virtual WIs - The Federation are looking to start a virtual WI next year - why not have a browse and see what they are all about.

Virtual Women’s Institutes (WIs) allow women to connect via Zoom or online platforms, making meetings accessible for those with mobility issues, caring responsibilities, or busy schedules. Membership provides access to the WI's educational platform, national campaigns, and interest groups (like book clubs or craft chats).

Because they meet online, you can join a virtual WI located anywhere, or even sign up as a dual member alongside your local in-person group

Looking for a WI that you can join from the comfort of your own home? Look no further!

Here is a list of our virtual WIs:
