Come on, everybody, we need your help!As you can see from the article below, the Village Hall is holding a repeat of the very successful 100-Word challenge that it ran several years ago.For those of you that weren’t at the last one, this is a brief resumé of what it involves -People (about forty last time) put pen to paper, and wrote a short story of exactly 100 words, comprising a start, middle and end.Then, on the performance night, the submitted stories were distributed to members of BADDS who kindly agreed to read them out to the audience, in batches of five.In the audience, each row was handed a marking slip, and after each set had been read, all these slips were collected, collated and a room-favourite determined for that batch of five stories.Then the next set would be read out, marked and so on.When all the sets had been marked, a break was had, including a shared supper and supplies from the bar.Then the process was repeated, reading and judging each of the ‘batch-winners’. Thus an overall winner, second and third were determined, and prizes accordingly handed out.But as you can see, the succes of the evening relies on a good supply of stories!So come on, even if you haven’t written anything before, have a go - NOW!The closing date for entries is 30th October.Send your entries to: [email protected]

Hi, all you lovely people who are going to turn out to enjoy a fun afternoon out on Saturday 12th.
Here is a reminder of the details of the day:

There is a nominal entrance fee of £5 per car to go to Hall Funds, and a raffle - drawn towards the end.

The Village Hall will be open from 12:30, with the official ‘sign-on’ time of 1:00 pm.
The event has a maximum run-duration of four hours, timed from when each competitor chooses to set off.
The route you take is solely decided by you, there is not a defined route, so some planning time before leaving is advised.

PLEASE NOTE THOUGH, THIS IS NOT A RACE, AND TIMING DOES NOT COME INTO IT.

The whole run lays within the bounds of OS Landranger map 80, and you must either have the map (greatly advised), or access to it via the internet (difficult, but possible). Without this, the run is impossible.

Before you leave, you will be asked to read a short ‘Legal Bit’, sign that you have read it and will abide by it, then return it to the organiser’s desk.
Also, you will be asked to read your car’s mileage figure on leaving and on your return and enter it on your answers sheet.
When you return, your answer sheet will be marked, and eventually a Winner and Second place will be worked out.

Unfortunately, there will NOT be a barbecue this year, so we suggest that you bring your own food in it’s place.

The bar in the hall will be open from 12:30, serving both non-alcoholic drinks as well as the usual range of superb beers, w**e and spirits.

When the results have all been calculated, there will be the presentation of the ‘Glorious (?)’ First and Second prizes.
If you have to leave before the announcement, if you leave your address or e-mail address with the desk, we will send the results on to you.

The main object of this even its for you to enjoy a challenging but hopefully enjoyable afternoon, so go to it!
If it’s not too late - persuade any friends you can too come along as well.

A reminder that we will be having a community barbecue on Saturday 13th June. The hall will be open from 11am, with an exhibition of local archive material on display. Later in the afternoon the barbecues will be fired up for everyone to cook whatever they care to bring. The village hall will provide salads and there will be a licensed bar. And we will round off the day with folk duo, Fool’s Gold, who will be performing their show, ’The Blaydon Races’. The ticket price for the show is £7.50.
