Don’t complain, camp in the rain.

We certainly did that this weekend, and still everyone kept smiling.

It might have been a bit of a wet Saturday but we powered through, put on our waterproofs and made the very best of it at Herons Wey Campsite - Girlguiding Surrey West

Some fabulous resilience from our wonderful Guides as they continued with their fires, patrol cooking and survival wide game.

And by some miracle we managed to get the tents down in the dry! Hooray for that!

We are planning something and need some supplies.

Has anyone got unloved balls of wool at home that need a new purpose in life?

A fantastic opportunity to get out on the river and contribute to a community clean up!

Please join us for The Big Paddle Clean up at Paxmead on Sunday 7th June - 10am-2pm! We would love to be joined by other river lovers! So, if you have a kayak, paddleboard, canoe or other craft, please come along for a paddle and a litter pick. If you would prefer to keep your feet dry - the tow path also needs litter pickers!

Paxmead will be open, so come and have a look around and if you bring a craft, launch from our jetty. There will be refreshments on sale.

Is your Guide or Ranger (or Young Leader) interested in an international adventure in Summer 2027?

Our County is running some international trips next summer and are looking for Guides and Rangers to go with them!

These are not trips run by us in Hersham, they are run by Girlguiding leaders across Surrey and normally consist of mixed groups of Guides and Rangers from a variety of different areas/units.

First step is a selection day on 5th July, here is where you will get to meet other girls interested and find out about the trips on offer and meet the adults involved. There will be team building challenges to help select girls for each adventure on offer.

If you are offered a trip there will then be further weekend meet ups between now and your international experience next summer to get to know your team!

We have had several Hersham girls travel on these trip, last year and this year and they have always had an incredible time! In 2025 we had girls go to Switzerland and Montenegro and this year several are off to Spain.

It really is a fabulous opportunity!

What the most random item you have had donated to your Guiding units?!?

We had this vintage sticker making machine, it came down from a dusty office shelf where it had not been used for very many years.

A quick thinking volunteer rescued it from its fate and instead of going to the tip, it came to live with us.

This afternoon the Rainbows went STICKER CRAZY, designing stickers of their favourite things and using them to start conversations with each other, discovering new friendships over shared loves.

We had just the best time and we are sure this old machine enjoyed coming out of retirement to spend it with us!

What a beautiful weekend for 7th Hersham Brownies to spend adventuring at Herons Wey Campsite - Girlguiding Surrey West

The sun shone all weekend for the girls to enjoy the very best time out in the woodlands, crafting, and making wonderful friendships.
