The Human Perspective #9: Romping? Call It What It Is

Language matters, especially when we talk about violence against women and girls.

When abuse is softened through words like “romping”, r**e is reduced to a “sex scandal”, or grooming is framed as an “affair”, it risks distorting the reality of what happened, blurring accountability and contributing to a culture where victims and survivors feel safer staying silent.

In the latest Human Perspective, we explore why real cultural change goes beyond policies and awareness training. It requires challenging harmful language, taking concerns seriously and creating environments where truth is valued above comfort.

Because if we cannot describe abuse accurately, how can we expect society to respond to it properly?

Why should hospitality be watching Soho on 25th August?

Because creating safer, more inclusive venues doesn't happen by chance. It happens when operators, managers, promoters and staff come together to share ideas, raise standards and learn from the people driving real change.

Join us at Thirst Bar, Soho with Bimini and MOTH as we explore the impact of the Ask For Clive standard and what it means for the future of our industry.

If you're serious about building venues where everyone feels welcome, this is a conversation worth being part of.
