We received a question asking do we have a website and what days are we open.
We do indeed have a website, of which we are very proud. It was refreshed and made easier to navigate by the daughter of one of our members, to whom we are immensely grateful.

Another wonderful volunteer. Allow me to introduce Kim Adams in her own words.
I had been working as the Manager at The Heather Club (THC) for two years, before taking retirement. I had already decided to transfer from being the Manager to a volunteer.
I was truly exhilerated by becoming one of the team. I smile nearly all the time whilst I am there because our agenda is just to make sure that all our members are safe, happy, supported, understood and stimulated.
It also gave me the opportunity to get to know family members and carers. THC is often a lifeline to them.
Why would I not want to continue to be part of the laughter, singing, applause and delight at having completed activities such as puzzles, flower arranging, arts and crafts, ball games, dancing and singing to mention just a few.
Therefore, when I was invited to become a trustee of this exceptional club, the answer was YES!
It is vital that we maintain the continuing success of this exceptional club.

I intend to introduce the many people who volunteer their time to make the Heather Club the place it is. As ever, if you or someone you know might like to become a volunteer or perhaps you just want to find out a bit more please contact me.

My name is Michael Rowan and at one point I had both my parents living with dementia. I remember being immensely grateful to any one who offered help. We really are a community.
When my parents passed away, I was looking for ways to put back the help that I had received.
I joined something called Contented Dementia as they had helped me enormously, and I am currently studying to become a Master Practitioner, which means that I will be able to advise families on how to promote life long well being for their loved one.
In 2018 I became a Trustee of the Heather Club and later stepped into the role of Chair.
Congratulations if you have read this far, I hadn't intended to ramble on so long.
Please dont forget that we cannot continue without our wonderful volunteers. Could this be you?

Our volunteers are the life blood of the Heather Club and none more so than our President, Norma Dean. Here is her story.
Hi Michael
I originally was asked in 1999 to be the carers representative trustee soon after my husband Dennis became a member of the Heather Club. At the time I was secretary of the Alzheimer’s Society Dacorum Branch. I stepped down when Dennis went into care in 2004 but continued to attend at AGMs so that I could report back to branch. An appeal for trustees was made & I offered to join. I hope that over the years I have been of some help & have enjoyed getting to know and working with my fellow trustees. For some years I was a volunteer (until lockdown) and loved helping. It has been an honour to be a trustee as well as a life long President
The Heather Club will always be close to my heart.

Norma has stepped down from the Trustees but has agreed to remain as our President.

We wish her well but she will be missed.

Another great day at the Heather Club. Just when I think that I have seen everything they introduce a brand new activity. Bollywood Dance. So much fun but we stayed seated and the music was great.

A date for your diary, when hopefully it will be a little cooler.
Our annual agm is set for 19th of June which is a Friday. We hold it in June so that we can submit a report along with our accounts and annual return to the Charities Commission. It would be great to see you there. We begin at 2.00pm. See you there.
