Time 4 Children Charity

Time 4 Children Charity At Time 4 Children we give one-to-one emotional listening support to primary school aged children. Who are Time 4 Children ……..

Time 4 Children was established in 2005, after its founder, Vicky Chalmers, piloted a school project in Mid Sussex throughout 2003/04. It became very clear there was little support for many local children in need of someone safe to listen to them. The project was hugely successful and Time 4 Children was born. Vicky, manages the day-to-day running of Time 4 Children, is our Lead Practitioner worki

ng directly with children, she runs our annual Volunteer Practitioner Training Course and facilitates our workshops for parents and carers. We have a committee of Trustees and three part time staff, all working hard to ensure that local children get the support they need. Our mission is to offer an open ended service, providing individual sessions using Reflective Listening and Non-Directive Play techniques, to support and help children who have experienced emotional upset and/or have behavioural problems. These children are unable to express and communicate their thoughts and feelings positively. So far in 2015 we have helped over 50 children and are committed to helping many more. We are currently fundraising to allow us to run a second annual volunteer training course. This a vital step towards helping more children. We would be delighted if you or your company would like to fundraise for us, or ideally partner with us. Additional Trustees would be welcomed as would people interested in training as a Volunteer Practitioner. We would also greatly appreciate any ‘in kind’ help such as website building, or offering us office space. We are hugely passionate about what we do – help us to make the difference!

This wouldn’t have been possible without volunteers.

They are all vital to our work.

HAPPY VOLUNTEERS' WEEK

This week we are celebrating the incredible volunteers who help make Time 4 Children possible.

Every listening session, every moment creating encouragement, and every child who feels heard is made possible because volunteers choose to give their time, compassion and commitment.

Our volunteers provide a safe space where children can talk, be listened to and build confidence - something that can make a lasting difference to a child's life.
To every one of our volunteers, past and present: thank you!

You are helping children across Mid Sussex feel heard, valued and supported.

At Time 4 Children, we believe taking action for children's mental health can start with something simple: listening, supporting and giving children the space to talk.

Through reflective listening, we help children across Mid Sussex feel heard, understood and less alone

Every conversation matters. Every child matters.

Thank you to everyone who supports our work and helps us continue providing emotional listening support to local children.

We had a wonderful time and it was lovely to see so many people.
We raised £160.70 on our stall (predominantly though the much-loved Hook A Duck game!)

Transforming Landfill and Supporting Children's Well-being
This group of young people are environmentally conscious students who embarked on a challenge to design and create a range of products entirely from materials that were destined for landfill.

Their craft teacher, Annabelle Davis, guided them with care and attention to create amazing and stylish accessories out of leftover leather, discarded fabric and unused yoga mats.

This group then sold these products and very, very kindly donated the amount they raised - £435.65 - to Time 4 Children.

We are very touched by their kindness and willingness to fundraise for us and we would like to say a huge thank you!

International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on 8th March.

It began in the early 1900s during a period of growing movements for women’s rights, including better working conditions and the right to vote.

It has since become a global day to recognise the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, while also highlighting the ongoing fight for gender equality.

On International Women’s Day, we honour the women who paved the way for the paths we walk today. Here at Time 4 Children, we have our founder to thank for the path she created that led us to where we are today.

Vicky Chalmers.

In 2017, Vicky’s work supporting children’s emotional well-being was recognised nationally when she was awarded an MBE.

Vicky created a charity that provided children with a little-known and often underused outlet - reflective listening - giving them the time, space and opportunity to work through their thoughts and feelings without questions.

More than twenty years later, Time 4 Children is still working in Mid Sussex to provide primary school children with reflective listening sessions.

Whilst we at Time 4 Children reflect upon Vicky's work often, and we want to use today to share with you what one woman did - she saw a problem, she found a solution, she created a legacy.

Today, and every day, we are thankful to her.
