1451 Haverhill Squadron ATC Welcome to the official 1451 (Haverhill) Squadron ATC page. Enterprise! Uniformed Youth Organisation

Intakes: March and September

Are you up for fun, adventure, incredible experiences and making new friends? Are you looking for something to give you the edge in life? Then welcome to the RAF Air Cadets. Better known as the 'Air Cadets', we’re a UK-wide cadet force with more than 40,000 members aged between 12 and 20 years. We're sponsored by the Royal Air Force and can give you hands-on experience of activities and courses that will challenge and develop your skills to help you succeed in whatever you want to do. HRH The Duchess of Cambridge is also our Honorary Air Commandant! The RAF Air Cadets is made up of two areas:
• Air Training Corps - The ATC is the RAF's cadet force, divided into six regions, 34 wings and more than 900 squadrons within communities around the UK
• Combined Cadet Force (RAF) - The CCF (RAF) is our section of the CCF which is made up of cadets from all three services, coming together in approximately 200 independent and state schools across the country

Our aims are to:
• Promote and encourage a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force among young people
• Provide training which will be useful in the Services and civilian life
• Encourage the spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship
And there's one more important thing - it's a lot of fun! We are not a recruiting organisation for the RAF but if you're thinking about a Service career, cadet membership will put you ahead of the competition. Many cadets go on to great success in the RAF (and the other Services). Around 40% of officers and 50% of all aircrew (including pilots, navigators and engineers) in the RAF now are ex-cadets. Research shows that they do better in basic training and stay in the Service longer than their colleagues. Likewise, if you chose a civilian career our research proves you can go on the great things…employers just love the skills and experience that air cadets offer.

🌺 Proud to Support the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal! 🇬🇧

Cadets and volunteers from 1451 (Haverhill) Squadron, Royal Air Force Air Cadets have been out in our local community proudly supporting this year’s Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Our cadets have been giving their time to help raise vital funds for the Royal British Legion, supporting serving personnel, veterans and their families.

❤️ More Than Just Fundraising

Taking part in the Poppy Appeal provides our cadets with an opportunity to give back to their community, develop confidence and communication skills, and understand the importance of remembrance, service and sacrifice.

We’re incredibly proud of everyone who has volunteered their time, demonstrating the values of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets and making a positive difference in our community.

👏 A huge thank you to everyone who has stopped to speak with our cadets, made a donation or purchased a poppy. Your generosity and support are greatly appreciated.

Recognising Skills for Life at 1451 Haverhill Squadron

As part of the National Cadets Week we’re looking at our Cadets Skills for Life. We believe being a cadet is about so much more than wearing a uniform. It's about developing the confidence, knowledge and life skills that will help young people succeed in whatever future they choose.

From learning to lead and working as part of a team, to developing discipline, resilience and independence, our cadets are constantly challenging themselves, discovering new opportunities and achieving things they might never have thought possible.

So, what makes the Air Cadets so valuable?

✅ Leadership & Teamwork – Learning to work together, support others and lead with confidence.
✅ Confidence & Communication – Developing the ability to speak up, make decisions and believe in themselves.
✅ Practical Skills – Opportunities to learn about aviation, navigation, radio communications, first aid and much more.
✅ Adventure & New Experiences – Taking part in activities that challenge boundaries, build resilience and create lifelong memories.
✅ Qualifications & Personal Development – Working towards recognised qualifications and gaining valuable experience that can support future education, employment and career opportunities.
✅ Friendship & Belonging – Becoming part of a team where everyone has the opportunity to contribute, grow and achieve.
The value of the Air Cadets goes far beyond the parade square. The lessons learned, friendships made and challenges overcome help prepare young people for life beyond cadets, whether that's at school, university, in the workplace or in their personal lives.

We don't just help young people become better cadets. We help them become more confident, capable and resilient individuals.
At 1451 Haverhill Squadron, we're proud to help the next generation discover their potential, develop their skills and build a brighter future.

Could you be our next cadet? Or perhaps you'd like to make a difference as an adult volunteer? Our open day is tomorrow 10am to 2pm!

We're always keen to welcome new faces to our squadron! You don't need to know everything about aviation or the RAF to get involved — just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

Join the adventure. Build your confidence. Gain skills for life.

Get in touch with 1451 Haverhill Squadron to find out more about joining us as a cadet or volunteering with our team!

❤️ Cadets Save Lives ❤️

For National Cadets Week, we're celebrating the life-saving skills our cadets learn. These photos are from our recent sessions with the Haverhill Community First Responders, where cadets practised CPR and learned how to use a defibrillator (AED).

First aid is one of the most valuable skills our cadets learn. Many go on to gain recognised qualifications, and every one of them leaves knowing they could step in and help when it matters most. In an emergency, those first few minutes can make all the difference.

A huge thank you to the Haverhill First Responders for giving up their time to engage with our cadets, and for everything they do for our community. 💚

Want to learn skills like this? Young people aged 12 (in Year 😎 to 17 can join, and we're always looking for adult volunteers too. Come and see us at our Open Day this Saturday, 10 October, 10am – 2pm at Haverhill Cadet Centre, Withersfield Road, CB9 9HG.

🏆 Congratulations to Sgt Cooper on being awarded the Civilian Committee Shield!

As our squadron SNCO, Sgt Cooper also takes on the role of Squadron Warrant Officer, leading on drill and discipline. Our Civilian Committee have been impressed by his enthusiasm, motivation and the support he gives our younger cadets, encouraging them to be the best they can be.

When we asked the cadets about him, they said he's:
✅ Really supportive and always pushes them to do their best
✅ Approachable – someone you can always go to with questions
✅ Kind – he doesn't shout, but knows how to make people listen
✅ Brilliant with drill and uniform (he'll even spot a loose hair on your jumper!)
✅ Encouraging on camps and at events like RAF Wittering and Marshall's Airfield

He also helps our NCOs learn how to teach, and the squadron's Personal Development Programme was his idea.

Our CivCom may often be in the background of squadron life, but they see and appreciate the hard work and dedication Sgt Cooper brings every week. Well deserved! 👏

Have a listen to what Mr Dave Robertson, a Civilian Instructor at Haverhill Air Cadets has to say about the organisation and how we impact the community!

Volunteering is one of the most powerful ways to make a difference in your community. When you give your time, you help shape opportunities, strengthen local connections, and create positive experiences for young people who are eager to learn and grow.

At Haverhill Air Cadets, volunteers are at the heart of everything we do.
Whether you’re supporting training nights, helping at community events, or mentoring young people as they build confidence and skills, your impact is real and lasting.

If you’re looking for a meaningful way to give back, meet new people, and support the next generation, volunteering with Haverhill Air Cadets is a brilliant place to start.

Your time can change a young person’s future.

💙 Community at the heart of cadet life.

For National Cadets Week, we’re celebrating how cadets from 1451 (Haverhill) Squadron give their time to support our local community.

Alongside supporting the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal, we work with Haverhill Town Council to support Armed Forces Day, Remembrance events, the Halloween Trail and other community activities. Our cadets also help care for graves in the cemetery the day before Remembrance, ensuring they are tidy ahead of the commemorations. ❤️

These activities give our cadets opportunities to contribute to their town, build teamwork and confidence, and learn about service and remembrance.

Thank you to our cadets, volunteers and community partners who make it all possible.
