Last week, we were delighted to bring together our HCF Ambassadors for our annual gathering at the beautiful Munden Estate, kindly hosted by Ambassador and former Chair of Trustees, Henry Knutsford, and his wife Kate.

It was a wonderful opportunity to thank our valued Ambassadors for their continued support and to share our plans for the year ahead. At a time when local charities are facing increasing challenges, their advocacy and commitment are more important than ever.

Thank you to all our Ambassadors for helping us make a difference across Hertfordshire.

The newly released Charities Aid Foundation UK Local Giving Report 2026 highlights the strong connection between community engagement and charitable giving - and the message is clear: when people feel connected to their community, they’re far more likely to support it.

The research reflects what we see every day across Hertfordshire. When people can clearly see the impact of local charities and community groups, it inspires generosity, strengthens local pride and encourages deeper community involvement.

At Hertfordshire Community Foundation, we are proud to connect donors, businesses and residents with grassroots organisations that are transforming lives across the county. By strengthening local giving and creating more opportunities for people to get involved, we can help build more resilient, compassionate and connected communities throughout Hertfordshire.

Hertfordshire Community Foundation is looking for two enthusiastic Trustees to join our Board. These vacancies have arisen as two of our current Trustees complete their full terms in September, and we are immensely grateful for their dedication and service.

HCF’s mission is simple: we help those most in need in Hertfordshire by raising funds and connecting philanthropy to local community needs and opportunities.

We’re looking for someone who has a passion for Hertfordshire, its voluntary sector, and residents. We are especially interested in people with:
· Finance/accounting experience
· Governance expertise
· Community voluntary sector knowledge

We welcome applications from people with a broad range of backgrounds, and our aim is for our Board to reflect the diversity of Hertfordshire.

Previous Trustee experience is not required.

It was a pleasure to welcome Chris Lloyd, County Councillor for Croxley Green, to HCF's office recently to catch up with the team — and to show off his three hard-earned marathon medals! 🏅🏅🏅

After completing the London, Milton Keynes and Leeds Marathons, Chris is now preparing to take on the Edinburgh Marathon this weekend in support of Hertfordshire Community Foundation.

At 68, and having only started marathon running at 60, Chris is a real inspiration. Alongside his fundraising efforts, he has also helped spread the word about HCF through a number of radio interviews, helping to shine a light on the importance of supporting local charities and community groups across Hertfordshire.

We are incredibly grateful for Chris’s support and wish him every success for Edinburgh! 👏

A huge congratulations to the HAPpy delivery team, who were recently recognised as ‘Partner of the Year’ at the Hertfordshire County Council Children’s Services Awards.

The award celebrates external teams working in partnership with Children’s Services to improve the lives of children and families across Hertfordshire.

At Hertfordshire Community Foundation, we are proud to be part of a programme that helps children and young people access enriching activities and nutritious meals during the holidays, and we thank Hertfordshire County Council and Herts Sports Partnership for their ongoing collaboration and support.

Nicky from our Grants Team recently visited The Serge Hill Project to see how the charity uses nature and creativity to help people feel connected and supported. Representatives from the Quercus Fund, a charitable fund managed by Hertfordshire Community Foundation, also joined the visit.

Thanks to funding from the Quercus Fund, the project has created a new garden shelter — a calm space for one-to-one support and reflection, as well as an outdoor classroom for community groups and school children.

It was wonderful to see first-hand how funding can help create spaces where people feel safe, included and connected.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re recognising the vital role small charities play in making mental health support more accessible across our communities.

Support can take many forms — from creating opportunities for people to connect and feel less alone, to helping individuals learn new skills, through to providing specialist one-to-one counselling. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we are proud to support local organisations delivering this important work.

One such charity is Youth Talk, where we were able to provide funding towards their Saturday sessions. Youth Talk believes every young person should have someone they can talk to, offering free, confidential counselling for 13–25 year olds who live, work or study in the St Albans District.
