Guildford Community Angels

Guildford Community Angels Community Angels are volunteer befrienders who support adults of all ages in Guildford struggling with loneliness and isolation.

We give weekly one-to-one support, offering a listening, non-judgemental ear, companionship and encouragement to engage with the local community. The people we support face loneliness for many and varied reasons, and our befriending is personalised to meet their individual needs. If you have a couple of spare hours a week, we’d love to hear from you to discuss whether volunteering with Community A

ngels would be a good fit for you. We’ll provide all the training you need, match you carefully and appropriately with someone to befriend, and offer ongoing volunteer support and learning opportunities. If you or a loved one are struggling with loneliness and isolation, please get in touch. Our volunteers are ready to help.

In Mental Health Awareness week we are delighted that our volunteer projects fit in so well with this years theme of taking action:
"This Mental Health Awareness Week we’re asking people to join us in taking action to support good mental health. Even small actions can help us feel hopeful and less powerless. And while our individual actions matter, when we come together we are even more powerful." Mental Health Foundation. 😇❤️🙏🏻

Guildford Town Centre Chaplaincy provides a non-judgemental, caring, listening and supportive presence for anyone who lives, works or visits Guildford. Our grant of £13,000 has enabled them to continue to meet demand for chaplains and fund a new part-time project coordinator.

In the last few months chaplains have been introduced to Zero Community Fridge, two new GP surgeries, St Lukes and Fairlands, and for the staff at Experience Guildford and Wetherspoons. Coming from all walks of life, they give a couple of hours each week and spend time with staff, patients or clients depending on the placement, listening without judgement in a safe and confidential space.

Susanna Hoar, on behalf of the Chaplaincy said: “As recognition of the need for wellness in the workplace increases, so does demand for our chaplains. Thanks to this funding, we now have a dedicated coordinator recruiting and supervising our growing team, and have been able to recruit a dedicated volunteer who has recently retired as a GP, to specifically manage the growing GP chaplaincy team. This has allowed us to concentrate on other areas of the chaplaincy, securing more placements in different sectors, increasing recruitment and raising the project’s profile. As a result, many more people in Guildford will now benefit from the chaplains’ caring presence, listening ear and the safe, confidential spaces they provide.”

Last Tuesday, the Town Centre Chaplaincy hosted a valuable training day for our volunteer chaplains at St Saviour’s Church. Our chaplains serve across Guildford in a wide range of settings—including businesses, GP surgeries, care homes, and emergency services—offering a listening ear to employees, residents, and members of the public.
Around 80 people from Guildford and beyond attended the training. Our patron, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey, Michael More-Molyneux, expressed his sincere thanks, recognising the hundreds of hours our chaplains generously dedicate to supporting others in the community.
