We kicked off Carers Week, last Monday, with a visit to RHS Garden Wisley. The weather was a little against us to begin with, but thankfully it brightened up later, giving carers the chance to explore the wonderful gardens and colourful flower displays that Wisley has to offer.

A huge thank you to Wisley for hosting our Carers Week event, and to all the reception staff who made both us and our carers feel so welcome. Everyone who came along had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed their day.

🧑 It's about neighbours checking in with each other.
πŸ’™ It's about employers being understanding and flexible.
🧑 It's about friends asking how you're doing and listening.

Small acts of support can make a huge difference to unpaid carers.

CARERS WEEK DAY 4: Did you know?

πŸ‘‰ Around 1 in 7 employees is balancing work and unpaid caring responsibilities.

CARERS WEEK - DAY 3: Who's Looking After You?

Caring can be rewarding, but it can also be exhausting.

When you're focused on looking after someone else, it's easy to put your own wellbeing to one side. But taking time for yourself isn't selfish - it's essential.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, struggling, or simply need a chance to recharge, support is available.

Action for Carers Surrey offers a range of free wellbeing activities for carers, including yoga, mindfulness, relaxation sessions, support groups and wellbeing workshops.

Why not take a look at our events page and see what's coming up? You might find just what you need to take a break, connect with others and focus on your own wellbeing.

CARERS WEEK - DAY 2... Many people don't realise they're carers. Shirley didn't.

It was only as her husband's mobility and memory declined that she gradually took on more responsibilities and found herself dealing with increasing practical and emotional challenges.

Like many carers, Shirley β€˜simply’ saw herself as a wife helping someone she loved.

"Without this support, things would have become much harder much sooner. It helped us stay steady and avoid reaching a crisis point." Shirley

If you regularly help someone with, one or more tasks like these:

βœ” Shopping

βœ” Appointments

βœ” Medication

βœ” Household tasks

βœ” Emotional support

If so, you maybe an unpaid carer.

Recognising yourself as a carer is often the first step towards getting support.

Action for Carers Surrey supports carers aged 5-99 across Surrey with information, advice, wellbeing support and much more.
