We have launched our Annual Coastwatch Quiz night. This is on Thursday 19th November at Felixstowe Trades and Labour Club at 7pm for a 7.30 start. This is usually our big fundraiser of the year, so we need your support with teams and with raffle prizes. The poster as attached so all details are on it.

Please also share this on your timelines and in any groups you belong to (we don't belong to all). Please help us to make this its usual success

Don't forget the clocks go back this weekend. Stay safe in the windy weather.

We now go to our winter hours of 0900 - 1600 every day until March. We will be looking out for any danger on our coast and in our waters.

We heard a PanPan call at lunchtime on Sunday from a yacht in distress with engine failure just to the north of our lookout but in view. Felixstowe Lifeboat were tasked by HM Coastguard to go to the yacht's aid.
Conditions were pretty bad for the lifeboat, heading north in a strong northerly wind and a rising tide, making progress harder. We were able to assist them in locating the casualty from our lookout position 10 mtrs above sea level.
Felixstowe Lifeboat were able to assist the yacht in getting to Halfpenny Pier at Harwich.

Here at NCI Felixstowe, we have a great presentation team, ready to come and talk to you. So if you want to know more about how the NCI work with other Search & Rescue organisations and HM Coastguard, to keep you safe on the beach and in the waters around us, then drop a line to [email protected] and we will get right back to you.

We still have slots available for the rest of this year and are planning our 2027 diary.

Did you know that we love to give talks to clubs, societies and groups to show you what we do and who the NCI are? We love giving these talks. They not only spread the story of the NAtional Coastwatch Institution, but also help to raise much needed fund for the charity.

living Here are a few interesting statistics for you, so you can see what we collectively achieve.

Our stations come in all shapes and sizes. At NCI Felixstowe, we are on top of a 212 year old Martello Tower. Others are in closed down Coastguard lookouts, purpose built mobile trailers, and one even has over 125 stairs to climb to get to the lookout. Staffed entirely by volunteers (2,851) we are the eyes and Ears Along the Coast, working for and alongside HM Coastguard and every coastal search and rescue organisation. We DO make a difference. Every day.

Well, today was a great day for women in volunteering. Our station manager Nick BW had so much pleasure and honour in awarding Watchkeeper epaulettes to not one, but two women trainees. This morning, it was Mina M who passed a tough assessment with clear knowledge and commitment. We look forward to seeing Mina leading watches.
This afternoon, Nick again had the pleasure of awarding watchkeeper epaulettes to Jackie B. Faced with tough and searching questions, Jackie flew through the assessment and again will make a first class watchkeeper. Additionally, whilst working full time, Jackie also rows for the local gig rowing team, which was what gave her the idea of joining us and seeing life from the opposite side.
Today has greatly strengthened our female Watchkeepers and we are proud to have them both aboard.
If you are on the beach, swimming, kayaking or wind surfing, in a sailing boat or paddleboarding along our three miles of coastline, Jackie, Mina and the rest of our team will be keeping a close watch and helping keep you safe along our coast and in the water.

Good morning followers and supporters. We’ve been advised this morning that there are fairly large jellyfish in our waters this morning. I know nothing about species and if they are in any way hazardous but feel it fair to mention this to our swimmers and paddlers. Any experts? Please comment so we know. Thank you

On Tuesday, our station manager Nick BW had the pleasure of awarding Certified Watchkeeper epaulettes and a certificate of achievement to Mike L. Mike is following a family tradition as his brother Richard is station manager at NCI Cromer.

We are delighted to have Mike aboard and helping to save lives and keep folk safe on the beach and in our waters. Huge congratulations Mike. A pleasure awarding you your epaulettes.
